Dance till you drop at the moon parties in Koh Phangan – Where the day begins after sunset

The full-moon parties of Koh Phan Ngan are legendary – it is a rite of passage as a traveller of the world to experience at least one of these magical nights dancing till morning under a full moon.

1

Meeting new people

The thing about Thailand is that so many travellers from across the world from all sorts of backgrounds converge here and you end up meeting so many cool people. And all of these people somehow find their way to Koh Phan Ngan for the party. So when in Thailand be friendly and open to meeting new people and sharing experiences it is one of the most important parts of the trip. And to be honest it's fun to party with a nice crowd. Since all travellers converge at the full moon party you can make plans with people you meet in other parts of the country for another hang-out.

Getting there

To make travel plans to reach Koh Phan Ngan it really depends on which part of Thailand you're travelling from. The closest islands to Koh Phan Ngan are Koh Samui and Koh Tao – from each of these islands you can catch an inexpensive ferry ride. These operate throughout most of the day, from the ferry its most likely that you should be able to walk up to the beach. If you're travelling from Bangkok – the easiest option for you would be to get on a flight to Koh Samui and take the ferry from there. However there are also overnight bus and train options available also, you will probably have to use one of the other if you're coming towards Koh Phan Ngan from any other part of Thailand apart from the nearby island or Bangkok.

Where to stay

All the nearby islands; Koh Samui and Koh Tao are famous for their resorts but Koh Phan Ngan also has its fair share of amazing hotels, villas and resorts. The best Koh Phangan resort in many people's opinion, however, is Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas – it's elegant, comfortable and just presents an amazing vibe. You should check it out if you're going for a full-moon party.

What to wear

Keep it simple and comfortable – the neon paint and accessories vendors sell on the beach is the real dress code. For about $10 you'll be looking like you truly belong at the full moon party and from there the fun begins. It's a good idea to use a fanny pack – to keep your phone and wallet in and you're ready to party.

The Beach Party

The music is amazing and quite upbeat, people are far as the eye can see and everybody is dancing like crazy. There are drink bucket stands and various other stalls – it's quite the spectacle with fire-dancers, different dance stages and electrifying DJs who just don't stop. It's an exhilarating experience.

The Crowd

The common consensus is that the crowd that generally attend the party are young backpackers. To some extent that is true – it's quite a young and wild crowd but it wasn't exclusively so, there are always people of all ages attending and it is generally an inclusive setting.
