Take A Ride In The Vintage Wellington Cable Car

No trip to Wellington is complete without a ride in the historic cable car, which has been making the journey from Lambton Quay to Kellburn since 1902. The original cable car was powered by steam and made multiple journeys a day. Today the bright red car stops at Lambton Quay every 15 minutes, to make the journey into the hills climbing 120 metres to reach Kellburn over a distance of 612 metres. The journey is made interesting with light displays in two of the tunnels and engaging murals at the station. At the end of your journey is the Cable Car Museum, which you can visit to understand the full history behind the vintage carrier. Here’s a tip, the best hotels in Wellington are the ones which give you easy access to the capital’s top attractions. Many like Oaks Wellington Hotel, just 5 minutes from the cable car station are popular options.

This is not only the first eco-sanctuary in Wellington, but the place was also named ‘one of the world’s 100 greatest places’, by Time Magazine. A sort of ‘Urban Island’, Zealandia gives you a glimpse of what New Zealand was before the arrival of humans. Birds trilling in trees, flora flourishing and the land unmarked, fertile and home to exotic wildlife, including the rarely spotted kiwi, is the kind of paradise that Zealandia is! Best of all its easy to reach from your hotel in Wellington.

Mind you, hanging around until sunset will be quite a magical experience.
