5 Things to do in Mauritius with Kids – It’s a place filled with childlike wonder

Mauritius is an island just off the coast of Madagascar. It is a tropical wonderland of scenic nature and breathtaking beaches. The island is one of the best places to go on a family getaway.

Port Louis

Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius and was first settled in 1735. The city was founded by the governor at the time Mahe' De La Bourdonnais. This amazing and picturesque port city retains much of its colonial charm and boasts a wide array of activities to entice both adults and children alike. Port Louis is home to the best Mauritius resorts including the highly acclaimed Anantara Iko Mauritius. There are three museums in the city which offer a fun-filled way for the kids to learn something new. The museums include; the Blue Penny Museum, the Museum of Natural History and the Mauritius Stamp Museum. There are also many other amazing places the kids would love such as; Caudan Waterfront, Port Louis Bazaar, Police Barracks, the Mauritian Chinatown and the Old Port Louis Theatre.

Chamarel

It's not hard for kids to fall in love with nature and especially not at a place like Chamarel. This wondrous place is one of a kind and the only place on earth where you can see 7 different colours of clay in one place. The red, brown, yellow, blue, green, purple and violet clay is the stuff of imagination as they sprawl across the park. And apart from the amazing geology, the park offers a great view of the surrounding greenery and the most beautiful waterfall in Mauritius; Chamarel falls. The kids are definitely going to want to see the falls up close.

Grand Baie

When in Mauritius finding great beaches isn't that difficult. Head down to the Grand Baie and you'll have your pick of the island's finest including; La Cuvette, Mont Choisy, Bain Boeuf, Trou Aux Biches and Perybere beach. The area is well accustomed to visitors and you can expect to find superb resorts and facilities and fun-filled activities for the whole family to enjoy. Take a dip in the sea or just soak in the sun from the shore and let the kids go wild – Mauritius is quite a safe place which is one of the biggest reasons it's such a popular family destination.

Mauritius Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens of Mauritius are known by many names and are in fact the oldest of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The gardens were first created in the 1700s and house a wide variety of palms from across the world but are most famous for its giant water lilies. The gardens are expansive and there are plenty of places for the kid to explore also you might even run into a few cute critters while there.

Deer Island

Deer Island is a tiny island of about 100 hectares just off the coast of Mauritius. It has many amazing resorts and lots of water sports to try out with the kids. The white-sand beaches and the stunning lagoon offer plenty to explore and it's just an all-round good time for the whole family; a perfect escape.
