Tarsar Marsar Trek is arguably one of the best treks in India. It is unmatched in its scenic beauty and serenity in its ambiance. This trek is a traditional trek of Kashmir and is in vogue since 20th century. Generations have trekked this world famous trek that sits in the lap of luscious meadows and enchanting mountains. The campsites beside its glacier-fed lakes are other-wordly.
Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is undoubtly the best trek in India. It is pristine and beautiful.This trek has 11 alpine lakes and has Gangbal Lake on its trail. This trek is nothing short of a lifetime experience: walking on the lush green meadows, seeing flocks of sheep dotting them; trekking parallel to the canals and rivulets that originate from snow-capped mountains and waking up in the morning to see the clouds drifting around your camps.
Barafsar Lake Trek starts from the last village of Kashmir Valley which lies towards the north-east. The village is famous for porters that take devotees to the holy Amaranth cave. The trek has three alpine lakes on its route, and one being the highest altitude (4605) lake in Kashmir. On the way, one experiences two alpine meadows, Kolahoi Pass (highest in Sind valley), eight technical cliffs, six glacier beds and Thajwas wildlife sanctuary.
Kolahoi Glacier is Kashmir’s largest glacier that encircles Kolahoi Peak. The Glacier is spread on around eleven kilometer square, and is a subject to many botanical and geological surveys. It is one of the best trekking places in Lidder Valley, the other being Tarsar and Marsar Lakes. En route this trek, one encounters breathtaking meadows and shimmering Lidder River. The trek starts from Aru and takes around 5 days to finish and it has a maximum altitude of 1100ft.
