The Johor Bahru border-town sits right across from the shared border with Singapore and is truly in our opinion more underrated than all else. Despite its seedy reputation back in the day, it has evolved expressly and become home to many family friendly attractions- let us tell you all about it!
The Johor Zoo is among one of the first zoos to ever be built in the whole of Southeast Asia and dates all the way back to the year 1928. With an abundance of amazing creatures co-existing here, be not surprised to come across gorillas, elephants, lions and even flamingoes to simply name a few! If this doesn't bring to mind a tropical sense to you, we can't imagine what will! In addition to these majestic creatures, there are also a number of bird and reptile houses at the Johor zoo. In case you are getting a little skiddy about your welfare in itself, worry not as the premises are dotted with multiple eateries all around. Situated just a hop-skip and a jump away from stunning hotels like Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, the Johor Zoo should without a doubt top your ultimate list of must visit places in Johor Bahru (JB). Should you be travelling with kids, this is an excellent choice of a place to visit and surely, your littles would love the chance to interact with some of these creatures during their feeding times!
This waterfront complex is one that houses a range of dining and lifestyle attractions. It is quite the popular spot for many tourists, possibly considering the fact that it also hosts the Danga World Petting zoo. Although it is a much smaller zoo than the main Johor Zoo, be not tricked as the delight of both attractions is much the same! Your chances of getting very up close and personal with creatures are much greater here than at the Johor Zoo- clearly, as the name goes! If this wildly attractive petting zoo wasn't reason enough to get you to visit Danga Bay, you may want to reconsider as it also houses the Danga World theme Park which features over 20 exhilarating rides inclusive of scenic Ferris wheel and the good old spinning tea cups!
Who says Legoland is only for babies? In our world, no one does. Legoland Malaysia is a terrific reason why you should most definitely explore Johor Bahru. Its 40+ different rides will keep you all entertained with good reason too! Since its opening in the year 2012, it has been joined by an adjoining water park where you can cool of engaging in a range of water rides or simply just choose to laze around in a pool. Bumper cars and planes along with the laser quest maze are few of the most popular activities regardless of age and gender! However, you might want to plan your visit well ahead seeing as it is one of the most popular theme parks in Johor Bahru, there is no telling when it is going to be busy band when it won't.
You can take the girl out of the beach but you can never take the beach out of the girl! Its tried and true and surely, all of us tropical-islanders can surely agree. Hence why no matter where you go, you are going to want to visit a beach and when in JB, it has got to be the Desaru Beach. This long strip of beach is one of the best places to take it all in! If you are looking for a place to kick back and relax away from the hustle and bustle of the main hubs, look no more because where you need to be exactly is Desaru Beach. Find yourself a cozy Johor Hotel and give yourself the time you need to unwind and recharge!
Believe us when we say- this market is nothing remotely like its name makes it sound like-rusty! You best be on your sharpest-mode if you are to make shopping an adventure here. Prices are cheap already, and even the fussiest off shoppers you can think of will surely find something that will please them over here. Two things to remember about the place- firstly, it is always busy as a stampede so prepare to brave through the overwhelming crowd, and secondly, never ever let a chance to bargain slip by.
