The greatly venerated Temple of the Tooth Relic is a religious attraction that draws numerous sightseers in addition to countless Buddhist devotees from all over Sri Lanka. This is because this temple is believed to house a tooth relic of Gautama Buddha himself. Each day Buddhist monks carry out prayers in honour of the relic. However, it is not possible for visitors to see the tooth relic itself as it is kept safely within a golden casket. In addition to the principal temple, you will find a number of lesser temples and shrines within the complex along with museums.
