5 Guides for Cleaning Big or Heavy Things

You know you have been meaning to clean your rugs, curtains and carpet. The big stain on your couch is staring back at you too! But that's a lot for one person. We suggest taking things step by step. Don’t stress.

1

Steam the Curtains

Steam the Curtains

If your curtains are still new, vacuum them and then steam them. You don’t even have to take
them off the hooks for this and they will be clean in no time. Once every fall and spring, take
them off and run them in the washing machine. Remember in cities like Lahore and Islamabad
where dust accumulates, you want to do this every season. Curtains can store dust in them
which can trigger a lot of allergies. Better safe than sorry.

2

Shampoo the Carpet

Not really. First take out all the furniture from the room. Use a heavy duty vacuum cleaner to get
the dust and debris off the carpet before moving on to the next step. Now apply a mix of laundry
detergent water to the stains. The mixture should look like a paste. Work that paste into the
stains with an old toothbrush. You may even want to use the back of a big spoon for that. That’s
right. Let it sit for a few moments and then use a damp towel to get that the stain out. You can
now use a carpet shampoo that's right for your carpet or get the carpet steamed,

Be Gentle with the Rugs

Be Gentle with the Rugs

Area rugs can bring the whole room together but they can be delicate. First vacuum your rug
and use soapy water to clean it. Do not use vacuum cleaner on fringes. Mix two three drops of
dish washing liquid in a bucket full of water to make the soapy water. Gently lather your rug with
the soapy water and towel and then use a spray bottle filled with water to spray away the dirt
and detergent.

4

Toss Comforters into the Washing Machine

But before you do that make sure your washing machine is big enough. If you have a small
washing machine do not try to fit in your comforter inside it. Chances are water won’t go through
the fabric or your comforter would be ruined. Your best bet would be to wash it by hand or take
it to a dry cleaner.

Polish Silverware

Bring water, a piece of aluminum foil, baking soda to a boil. Once boiling, take off from heat and
drop your favorite forks, knives and spoons into the pot. Then strain them out. Use a paste of
baking soda and water to polish them and then rinse them but all this can get too much. With
the cooking and cleaning and other day to day activities, you don’t want to push yourself to do
all this heavy duty washing and cleaning in a day. If you want, then hire a cleaning service or an
online laundry service like Mauqa Online. They’d do the washing, cleaning and ironing for you
while you catch up on your favorite TV show. Sometimes hiring a professional cleaning service
can be the best option.

These were just simple tricks and tips to get you started on the deep cleaning journey. Know
that you can’t do it all in a day. It is always best to make a schedule for all things. Maybe once a
season for curtains and same for carpets but you might want to wash your comforters more than
once during winters and your fans would definitely need to be cleaned on a biweekly basis.
Make a plan and then get to work. Happy Cleaning!
