And by night, it transforms into a completely different atmosphere; into a city that invites night party goers and foodies to come and explore. If you’re someone who’s visiting or temporarily planning on living in Colombo, and wandering if the night life of it can interest you or keep your night cravings satisfied, we think you have nothing to worry about! While there are certainly plenty of other cheaper options to consider, here are some of the most “happening” and “classy” night time places of Colombo to give you just a glimpse of the fun.
A sister pub for The floor by O! and a less noisy one, The shore by O! is located out of the hustle and bustle, in the quieter Mount Lavinia. Their drinks are not as adventurous as their sister establishment, but has a reputation of having great beer cocktails. They also have some tasty tapas/bites, and the fact that the establishment is right by the shore certainly adds to its charm…!
Known as everyone’s “go-to place” and located conveniently at the Dutch hospital in Colombo 01, The Taphouse by RNR is known for a friendly hang out spot. Though crowded in the weekends, you can easily fit a crowd in on the weekdays, and you definitely have to give the food a try. Their cocktails are a fun bunch too, perfect for a few giggles with friends! We suggest you give their pol rotti kottu a try; it’s a crowd pleaser.
Located by the Galle face hotel in Colombo 03, “In on the Green” is another British inspired pub. With slightly expensive booze and delicious food, the establishment generally draws a quieter crowd. However, if you enjoy pub quizzes, and use it as an opportunity to make new friends, then this is where you need to head. Their service however, is superfast and friendly, making it a great spot to drop by after work on a work day. They also have a variety of fun live music, as well as the above mentioned pub quizzes.
If live music is your thing, then “Floor by O!” is the night time heaven that you’re looking for! A great place to dance and chill out with your friends, the Floor by O! is located in Colombo 07. Popularly known for its variety of cocktails, the place can be a little loud, due to its fame and sheer crowd. It is, however, a great spot to chill if you get there before the mob does.
A very English pub part of another famous hotel, the Cheers pub is located in Colombo 03. From the traditional English pub food like Fish and Chips, to beer friendly food like club sandwiches, Cheers Pub will not disappoint you. However, alcohol is not served during the day (apart from local Beer), so it may not be the best option for a “mid-week-day-off” watering hole.
If you’re a fan of the German cuisine, and are looking to get your fill of it after the sun sets, then there’s no better place for it than at the Baverian. Located at Galle face court 2, Colombo 03, and decorated to match a typical German pub, the Baverian is a popular weekend spot for couples and singles. However, it’s a must to note that the food does not come cheap here; even if the portion sizes justifies the price.
A charming restaurant that is part of the Steuart Hotel in Colombo 01, this establishment usually has a friendly and busy buzz going on during the day; giving it a comfortable feel for a cozy lunch date. By night, it’s a bustling pub; one that is known for its killer food! Once you get tired of the partying, or you want to take a little time for yourself before your gang arrives, you could even go for a little exploration of the old fort. Plus, since it’s attached to one of the best places to stay in Colombo, you could simply book a room and party for as late as you’d want; not having to worry about driving home!
