List of Things to Do in Nay Pyi Taw

Nay Pyi Taw is the capital city of Myanmar with a small population is the perfect destination to enjoy a peaceful vacation without the hustle and bustle of tourists and crowds. The roads can feel empty as there are large spaces between buildings which is one of the striking features found by many travellers. The city is said to be built from scratch and made the new capital of the country in 2005.

Uppatasanti Paya

Built by General Than Shwe and his wife in 2009 the temple is one of the most attractive sites of Nay Pyi Taw. Beautifully lit up at night this 321 feet tall golden pagoda is a beautiful creation that is scared to a follower of Buddhism. The interior of the pagoda is an architectural marvel with carved-stone murals and statues that illustrate the life of Buddha. At the east side of the pagoda, you can witness some elephants munching bamboo. The pagoda is a replica of the most religious site of Myanmar Shwedagon Pagoda and a great place to learn about the influence and start of Buddhism in Myanmar. You can easily find this temple as most Nay Pyi Taw hotels are located within easy reach in par with the small land space of the country.

National Museum

The national museum is the best place to visit to get a real feel of the culture and history of Myanmar. The building that was completed in 2015 is massive with large empty spaces which might make you feel like there isn't much to see around. Don't let that get to you as there are a whole lot of beautiful artefacts to see such as jewellery worn in the 11th century, replicas of temples as well as paintings most of which belong to the Bagan period. There are some interesting things to see such as the fossils that date back to 40 million years ago, tools from the stone age and some beautiful paintings of 20th century artists. Water Fountain Garden

Water fountain garden, 165-acre stretch of lush greenery is a must visit place in Nay Pyi Taw with its ponds, bridges and waterslides, fountains and beautiful sculptures. The best time to visit the park is at night when the water fountains are lit with a fountain show with music. If you visit at dusk you can catch the glimpse of the beautiful while and enjoy a stroll around the park right before the fountain show. This is a popular place among the locals as well as tourists who come here for a nice picnic and enjoy an evening out. There is also a tower you could climb to get some breath-taking views of the city and if you bring your camera along with some nice captures at sundown as well.
