Botswana is well known as a safari destination in South Africa. With that being said, you can explore a wealth of wildlife and so much more. Here are some of the top attractions you cannot miss out on.

Okavango Delta

This is a gigantic expanse of land that is covered with swamps and water. What is so amazing about this Delta is that it is home to the greatest wildlife migration in the world. Around 200,000 of these animals make their way towards this Delta every year from July till September. They do this to escape the baking heat of the Kalahari Desert. One can witness more than 150 reptiles and mammal species and more than 500 bird species too!

Chobe National Park

This National Park is located bordering Zambia and Zimbabwe. There are some fascinating things you can do in the town here. Although this town called Kansane can be quite uneventful throughout the year, there is something else that intrigues tourists to make their way here. On occasions, stray lionesses come to this town! Therefore, your adventure begins right at this town from where you will take a safari trip along the Chobe river that has an excellent collection of wildlife creatures to witness. Although this National Park might be not easily accessed you can take a direct flight here from places like Gaborone. There are many things to do in Gaborone and many safaris to visit too. You can check out properties like Avani Gaborone Resort & Casino to stay, for a centrally located property close to tourist spots.

Nxai Pan National Park

This is another incredible destination that is fit for safaris. The scenery surrounding the area itself draws so many people across the world to come here. The National Park is peppered with incredible sand tunes, baobab trees and many salt pans. When the pans get flooded it offers an incredible opportunity to view all kinds of birds. There are hundreds of animal species who come here too, which include wildebeests and zebras. You must visit this National Park anywhere between December and April.

Tsodilo Hilla

This place offers quite a unique experience and is considered an art gallery of the outdoors. There are around 4000 ancient rock paintings depicted in these hills. Four hundred of the sites here depict hunting scenes, typical animals, ritual dances and so much more. Some of these rock art are actually traced to be from over 20,000 years ago. Therefore, archaeologists have stated that there might have been people living in these areas for at least 100,000 years.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

Another place that you cannot miss out on when in Botswana are the sand dunes and salt pans that attract all kinds of life during the wet season of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Make sure to visit this park during the summertime which falls between January and April. You will have to get here via a four-wheel-drive. This park is massive and covers around 38,000 kmĀ². Besides, the park has encompassed two parks that were separated previously. Therefore, make sure to leave some time aside to fully explore these areas.
