The Water Industry Act 1991 requires that any liquid produced by your
company as part of its business activity on trading premises which is
discharged into the public sewage system requires consent from the local
sewage waste undertakers (waste water utility company).
Deviating samples are samples which may jeopardise the validity
of the reported test result for one or more of the following reasons:
are not preserved correctly
may have exceeded their maximum holding time prior to analysis
lack the date and time of sampling
are not cooled
have inappropriate headspace
have insufficient quantity
The Landfill Directive (EU Directive 99/31/EC) places controls
on waste disposal which include the requirements to follow waste
acceptance procedures and criteria agreed by the Council of the EU.
The waste acceptance procedures and criteria are set out in the Council
Decision (2003/33/EC), and in Schedule 10 of the Environmental
Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010. Further information on

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that has been used by the
construction industry in building materials in the UK until mid-1980.
As a guide any building constructed before 2000 could contain asbestos
and subsequent demolition and of these buildings and burial of building
waste could have resulted in land becoming contaminated with asbestos fibres.
There are unacceptable risks to human health and the environment from historic
land contamination which were addressed in the UK through the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

framework and issues related to bringing contaminated land back into safe use.
