Thai people are serious when it comes to clothes shopping and it would be a surprise if they weren't. Thailand is great for gem shopping and you'll find many traditional designs worked in gold with intricate carvings. You will also find a lot of cheap costume jewellery and by the beach, many vendors sell beaded jewellery, bracelets and necklaces which are quite beautiful and very cheap.
