We all know our children must complete the Eleven Plus exam to get into Grammar School, let's look at what it involves so we can help with practise tests

Unlike reasoning exams, for which your child has to practise special skills, maths for 11+ is just a continuation of the work your child does every day at school. Some of the questions may be a little harder, but they will be testing the same skills and content.

PART FIVE & Non-verbal Reasoning Paper Non-verbal reasoning is not subject that your child will study as part of their school curriculum, but it is dependent on a set of core skills integral to maths, science, design and technology. It does not rely on literacy skills all the questions are in pictorial or diagrammatic form.

PART THREE – The English Paper The most critical area in my opinion is the English Paper, particularly the comprehension part as this is now very inference-based and tests an understanding of old-fashioned English vocabulary and sayings. To be prepared it helps if your child is well-read and articulate.

PART FOUR – Verbal Reasoning Paper Another critical area is the Verbal Reasoning Paper. The changing  educational landscape across UK schools leads me to question whether the once proud and envied education system is now in so much trouble that it can no longer compete across international boundaries. How is it that discipline has become such a major issue leading to thousands of exclusions which in turn results in thousands of children lacking a full-time education and therefore already at a disadvantage when in the world of work and in other areas of their young and adult lives too?

I remember my teacher My Holdroy reading Black Beauty aloud to my whole class in Junior School before home time and I loved our reading hour with him. He was the best teacher anybody could have. He read many books to us but this one in particular stood out more than the others.

Girls leaving inner London Primary Schools have outperformed all other children in every other part of the country. 75% of girls passed reading, writing and maths SATs which means they mastered the three Rs. This is the highest result for any group within England. The boys also did better in these schools too with 67% help.

At Elisa’s Tutorial School we encourage independent work and writing projects to embed the learning and writing techniques learnt in our group and one-to-one teaching. The Moon activity books, downloadable from my website, are available for sale. The activities within these books have inspired pupils to do work of their own away from our teaching and learning environment. This is a sample of work encouraging research and development of general knowledge as well as independent learning and vocabulary development and help.

For someone who was never trained in art and instead read English at Cambridge, Sir Quentin Blake is one of the most distinctive artists in the world. Not only were his illustrations ground-breaking for being quite as important as the Dahl stories they depicted, his work actually is intrinsically linked to our enjoyment of the help.

When I read this I was not as shocked as I thought I would be…everything nowadays can be bought on the internet and everything is available if you have the money! People, especially students, are so used to having information and services at their fingertips that they would, I suppose, not think twice about getting help.

Our dear Thomas the Tank Engine is going multicultural and has even had discussions to ensure it is politically correct with the United Nations. I’m not sure how I really feel about this! While I believe in being inclusive and opening the world of classic children’s stories to all I kind of believe that Thomas help.

Government figures of the latest test results show more than a third of children have not reached SATS targets as they leave primary school, 64% of students got the required results in the 3 Rs tested by the SATs in KS2. Though this figure is up from 61% last year and 53% the year before.

How can government spending on education be at record levels and yet funds be cut per student by 8% since 2010? It’s because pupil numbers are rising every year. Plus local authority funding, which directly impacts school funding in the area, is also being cut.

It #8217;s that time of year where parents are reviewing their son or daughter’s school report and wondering where and how they might be able to further support their learning and achievement. When we send our children to school, we expect them to learn and to become independent learners. Not just learn Literacy and Maths or about the Battle of Waterloo, but also how to live in the world that they will soon join as adults. However, do not assume that life-skills are included as part of help.

Schools are cutting PE time due to exam pressure, despite a recent study showing that physical fitness positively affects how well children take in and remember new information. It has also been proved that schools that focus on well-being tend to do better academically. So sacrificing PE to focus on exams seems ironic doesn’t it?

Have you ever said to your children, “I am not a Maths person too and that’s alright.”? If you have, research says you are not doing your children any favours, and are in fact poised to pass on your Maths anxiety to them. You might think you are making your children feel better, being a help.

A number of private schools have refused to be guinea pigs for this summer’s new tougher GCSEs even though children at state schools are being forced to take them which as a private tutor and educator I find quite astonishing and a clear strategy towards assuring the best results are achieved.
