An inventory transfer is when goods are transferred from one location to another. Location here refers to a plant, storage location, warehouse or as something as simple as a bin.
Effective inventory management requires reducing errors that frequently occur. While there are more ways to identify inventory errors than ever, there’s still a fair chance of committing mistakes. A user-friendly mobile inventory management system minimizes mistakes and boosts efficiencies. Innovapptive, a mobile-first digital transformation provider, has developed mInventory, a robust solution that enables users to avoid the common errors addressed here. Use mInventory to accurately determine supply levels; track receipts, movements and consumption; and better control costs as part of an optimized, efficient inventory and warehouse management process.
Mining is a highly complex industry. Its operations are intensive, risk-prone and unpredictable. The mining industry needs to overcome several challenges to remain competitive. This blog talks about the typical obstacles the mining industry faces and how a mobile plant maintenance (PM) solution can systematically mitigate these challenges. Let’s decode these challenges and examine why you ought to consider an enterprise PM solution.
Barcodes and barcode scanning are everywhere nowadays. All products, from consumer to industrial, have barcodes, which embed a surprising amount of information. By using the right asset tracking app, you can turn your mobile device into a scanner that generates valuable data sets to improve asset management and decision making. A simple Google search reveals dozens of apps that will enable your phone to scan all types of barcodes – including 2D and QR codes. Not long ago, organizations used handheld barcode scanners to key in asset information into their records. Those scanners were quite costly and offered limited features compared to what’s available now. And like any other hardware device, those handheld scanners required frequent service and replacement.
Operator rounds serve a valuable purpose at any industrial facility. It’s during these walkthroughs where equipment is observed, issues uncovered, and problems reported. Without them, production and performance would quickly deteriorate. It’s imperative that operator rounds be done seriously and thoroughly. Many plants and industrial organizations rely on a paper process when conducting operator rounds. A technician walks around with a clipboard in hand, physically documenting potential problems that must be addressed. When any are found, the paper form is dutifully passed up the chain of command for further action.
Companies in asset-intensive industries – oil and gas, chemical processing, mining and metals, utilities, and manufacturing – face risks every day. Unfortunately, not every organization takes assessing risks as seriously as they should. Some companies believe risk assessment interferes with normal day-to-day operations. Others think it offers little value versus time, effort and money spent. This attitude leaves them exposed. So, they’re often unprepared when those risks become reality.
First some Supply Chain theory. The debate between centralized and decentralized inventory is as old as Supply Chain Management itself. It focuses on the pros/cons of holding inventory in one large central warehouse (centralized inventory) versus multiple smaller warehouses (decentralized inventory). Typically, cost modelling will show a central warehouse reduces overall inventory levels, working capital costs and warehouse costs versus decentralized warehouses. However, a centralized model leads to higher transport costs because of the greater distance to the customer base. The “right” number of warehouses to serve the market becomes a trade-off between warehouse costs and transport costs, but critically customer service needs to be considered. If it takes 3 days to process and deliver an order from the central warehouse to the customer but the customer needs delivery in 2 days, then one central warehouse will be insufficient.
The utility industry faces a constant challenge in maintaining proper inventory levels. Most warehouse managers incorrectly estimate inventory based more on gut feelings rather than any scientific method. This poses a lot of problems and you could end up writing off losses when inventory is high or fail to meet the needs of your customers when inventory levels are low.
Productivity levels are bound to increase with automation, and this can benefit utility workers and companies. For example, autonomous platforms can be deployed to power generation to regulate generation in a power plant. Through intelligent automation, utility field operators can also deal with fluctuation in wind turbine repair and maintenance processes. Innovapptive’s enterprise asset management (EAM), field services, inventory and supply chain management solutions provide access to real-time and mission-critical data. Through automation and mobilization, real-time data connects utility field-level workers to back-office systems to executives, creating total operational visibility.
The operating environment for utility companies poses continuous and evolving challenges. These include regulatory uncertainty, environmental mandates and paradigm shifts such as the surge in renewable energy, the rise of energy storage technology and the increasing demand for distributed generation. Many companies have fine and capable IT departments that are a credit to their organizations. As a result, executives and decision makers rightly wonder why their own staff can’t construct a working mobile system while saving a lot of money at the same time.
The warehouse is the heart of your supply chain. Different companies, including manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, importers and retailers, operate multiple warehouses. These companies work hard to make their processes leaner and more productive.

Bad data can have a big impact on your bottom line. Companies increasingly depend on data to make decisions. This is especially true for asset management, which rivals sales in its effect on company finances.
Poor enterprise asset management practices lead to higher taxes, bigger insurance premiums and more regulatory fines.
