Turtle Hatchery and Madu River

What's not to like about a chance to see and even feed baby turtles at the turtle hatchery in Kosgoda which is about 1 to 2 hours' drive from Negombo. You could also learn about the five endangered species of sea turtles that visit the coasts of Sri Lanka and learn about how nests of turtles are protected before the eggs are hatched. A boat safari in Madu river is only 20 to 30 minutes away from Kosgoda which will take you on a beautiful ride through the surroundings of Madu River. Mysterious mangroves, crocodiles and water monitors are some of the thrilling siteings of this boat safari which can be ended in style with a relaxing fish pedicure.

An early start is best to make the most of a snorkelling adventure as the visibility can be lower during the day. The snorkelling tour usually begins from the harbour of Negombo and takes a 20-minute boat ride to get to the best snorkelling location. You will be able to witness some truly magical sea life including bright coloured live corals, varieties of fish, hermit crabs, sea anemones and much more in the deep sea of Negombo.
