Turtle Hatchery and Madu River

What's not to like about a chance to see and even feed baby turtles at the turtle hatchery in Kosgoda which is about 1 to 2 hours' drive from Negombo. You could also learn about the five endangered species of sea turtles that visit the coasts of Sri Lanka and learn about how nests of turtles are protected before the eggs are hatched. A boat safari in Madu river is only 20 to 30 minutes away from Kosgoda which will take you on a beautiful ride through the surroundings of Madu River. Mysterious mangroves, crocodiles and water monitors are some of the thrilling siteings of this boat safari which can be ended in style with a relaxing fish pedicure.

Snorkelling; peak into the sea life

An early start is best to make the most of a snorkelling adventure as the visibility can be lower during the day. The snorkelling tour usually begins from the harbour of Negombo and takes a 20-minute boat ride to get to the best snorkelling location. You will be able to witness some truly magical sea life including bright coloured live corals, varieties of fish, hermit crabs, sea anemones and much more in the deep sea of Negombo. Hotels are located within easy reach to the harbour for visitors looking to engage in a magical snorkelling experience. An underwater camera will come in handy to capture some of these beautiful sea creatures and take away some of them in the form of photos.

Fishing Tour

Negombo is well-known for its fishing activities and a fishing tour is a perfect way to explore this city. Negombo lagoon is famous for fishing and a large number of hotels are within close proximity such as Amagi Aria. You will get to witness some traditional fishing methods used by fisherman here such as basic wooden catamaran and outrigger canoe. A good fishing session will end with a catch of seer, mullet, pomfret among other lake fish and some lobster and shrimp if luck is on your side. The Dutch fort is a must-see sight in Negombo which was built during the Portuguese and Dutch colonial rule in Sri Lanka. St.Mary's church in Negombo is one of the significant structures of the city. This church is grand and exquisitely decorated with three main levels with a ceiling with religious paintings. Another one of Negombo's attractions is the Dutch Hamilton Canal built during 1802 and 1804 under the British governance.
