Top 5 Water Activities to do in the Maldives – Frolic in the Glorious Waters of the Indian Ocean

The Maldives with its luxury and the laid back atmosphere is a haven for water activities; here are some of the most popular activities to make your holiday more interesting.

1

Scuba diving

Undoubtedly, the Maldives is one of the best destinations in the world for scuba diving. The temperate and clear waters of the Indian Ocean have the perfect conditions for attracting abundant marine life. Encounter sea turtles, eels, dolphins, and sharks as you venture deep into the ocean. Being in the Maldives is a great opportunity to learn diving if you are a newbie. Most resorts have their own PADI certified diving centres that have training classes for those new to diving, so make the most of the experience whilst there.

2

Snorkelling

If you are not confident in scuba diving you can always try a hand at snorkelling. As in diving most resorts are fully equipped with the necessary equipment and will be available on hire. Be wary of not stepping in any of the fragile coral life with the flippers on. A house reef can be found in most resorts and Maldives water villa accommodations. You can step out and explore the reef anytime you want, and Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas is such an option. Some resorts may offer snorkelling boat tours and will take you to the best hotspots in the islands.

3

Kayaking

Kayaking will allow you to paddle around and soak in the beaches, palm trees and the island experience at your own pace. It is fun and a good way to get a mini work-out to keep you in shape while holidaying. Resorts will organise a kayak for you, and some even have transparent bottomed kayaks to see what's happening in the ocean beneath you. Use basic precautions such as wearing a life jacket, and protect yourself from the harsh sun by wearing sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.

4

Windsurfing

This is a nice activity to try out even for first-timers, be lulled by gentle breezes as you sail across the wondrous Indian Ocean. You can even perhaps witness a striking sunset. Basic training will be made available from your choice of resort or inquire before making a booking. The best times for windsurfing are from May to October when the winds gain some momentum.

5

Glass bottom boat rides

If you want to see what's happening in the ocean beneath you while taking a relaxing boat ride, this might be just the activity for you. These boats are equipped with comfortable seating and the clear glass panel beneath the boat will bring colourful marine life such as fish and corals right to your feet. Some packages end the excursion with a cooked lunch for the guests on the beach itself. This might be the ideal adventure for those who don't know how to swim but want to experience sea life up close. Boat ride packages will be arranged by your accommodation upon request.
