Brief Garden

The Brief Garden is one of the most interesting places that you must visit in Bentota. You can find the house of Bevis Bawa here, the brother of the famous architect Geoffrey Bawa which has some great artwork. A stroll down this garden will take you on a magical 'secret garden' experience. You can get here by following the Mathugama road from Aluthgama and reach Dharga town. From here you can follow the signs to Brief garden or simply ask a local for directions. As there is no public transport to get here, you can hop on a tuk for a fun ride to get here.

Galapata Raja Temple

A visit to a temple is one of the best ways to learn about Sri Lankan culture and history. Just about 3 kilometres from Bentota, you can find Galapata Raja temple, a place full of historic significance. This temple built in the 12th century has some nice murals and paintings relating to Buddhism as well as 2500-year-old stupa; a structure that is scared to followers of Buddhism. It is also believed that this stupa holds the canine tooth of Kasyapa, Buddha's main discipline. You can get to the temple by crossing the bridge south of Aluthgama and taking the Elpitiya road for 1.5 kilometres and finally taking a right turn from the main road for another 1 kilometre.

Bentota Beach

Bentota is known for its beautiful beaches with golden shores and blue water. You can take a stroll down the beach in the evening when the sun is not at its peak and enjoy a beautiful sunset across the horizon. Surrounded with coconut trees and sandy shores this is the best way to kick off and relax on your trip to Bentota. If you are staying in a resort in Bentota and are looking for one that caters to all customers such as Shinagawa beach, you'll find the beach just a few steps away. You could even engage in a water sport such as diving or snorkelling while you are there and even take some captivating pictures of the beautiful blue waters.

Turtle Hatchery

A visit to the turtle hatchery is something that shouldn't be missed on your trip to Bentota. If you are lucky you will be able to witness baby turtles hatch and swim for the first time, which is definitely a mesmerising experience. The Kosgoda turtle hatchery is a turtle conservation project that helps with the conservation of sea turtles. The staff protects the eggs laid on the beach by predators and help them hatch and looked after for some time before being realised to the sea. You can learn and watch the turtles and even get a chance to realise baby turtles to the ocean here which is definitely a one of a kind experience.
