When you think of golf caddies, it's usually male figures who come to mind. However, female caddies are gaining more popularity, and there are several great ones on the green today. Some have retired, some are just starting, and some are in for the long game. We're going to round up the top female caddies for you below.
Although she retired in 2012, Fanny Sunesson became the first female caddie in history to win a major. Through the 1990s, she caddied for Nick Faldo, and she guided him to win four major titles. Over her career, she worked with European golf stars like Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia, and she led Henrik to win the 2007 World Match Play Championship and the 2009 Player's Championship.
Originally a top-ranked female golfer, Meaghan switched roles in 2013 when she went from professional golfer to caddie. A streak of near misses with the loss of her tour card prompted the career change, but Meaghan wasn't ready to leave. Since then, she's been a caddie for several professional golfers on a host of different tours around the United States.
Another former professional player, medical issues, forced Michelle to stop playing in 2006. She caddied for Meredith Duncan for two years because Meredith asked her to as a friend. Once Meredith lost her tour card, Michelle went on to caddie for Brittany Lincicome. While caddying for Brittany, she ended up in exclusive events like the Solheim Cup.
Sarah Bowman met Alena Sharp on a hockey rink where the golf pro asked her to caddie for her. When she first started, Sarah admitted she had no idea what she was doing. However, this changed, and she's built a reputation as a reliable and knowledgeable caddie.
Sophie Gustafson is a former LPGA Tour player who has played on eight European Solheim Cup teams and won 28 professional titles. She retired in 2015 to become the caddie for Beth Allen. That year, they went on to win Beth's very first LET title. She also pushed Beth to make it to the top slot in the LET 2016 Order of Merit.
Since 2013, Missy has been Brittany Lincicom's caddie. She led her to a 2015 ANA Inspiration win in 2015. Missy was a professional player until 2008 when she made the switch to professional caddie. She has also worked with Irene Cho for two years. Missy is known for being a very dedicated caddie with a perfectionist streak, and this helps her players secure wins.
Mardi was an Australian professional golfer who won five times worldwide, and she was part of the 1999 Jamie Farr Kroger Classic. She officially retired from golf in 2006, and this was when Mardi took up caddying. Since then, she has been Lisa Hall's caddie on the Ladies European Union.
