Top things to do in Abu Dhabi - Cultural Highlights and More

Abu Dhabi is one of the most sought after destinations in the Middle East and here are a few things you might want to explore during your holiday there.

1

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

This is the highlight of all Islamic buildings found in Abu Dhabi and is made with Macedonia marbles. If you are familiar with this style of architecture you will love this structure that is a fusion of the Ottoman, Fatimid and Mameluke design styles. This blend makes for a completely unique and modern Mosque for you to explore. The glasswork and tiles found in this mosque is the icing on top of the cake. This is an extremely complex architecture and the complicated drawings found on the walls of this mosque took about 20 years to complete. The place can house more than 40,000 people at a time and is the largest structure in the United Arab Emirates. Named after a late Sultan, you can explore this place even if you are someone from a different religion. If you are put up at one of the Abu Dhabi luxury hotels the likes of Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island Al Sahel Villa Resort this must definitely be on your itinerary or list of things to explore.

2

Heritage Village

If you want to go back in time during your holiday in Abu Dhabi, the Heritage Village is where you must go to. Heritage Village still exists in the time period before oil was discovered and it is situated in the city's coastal side. This old village is an extremely attractive highlight in Abu Dhabi and you will come across many traditional objects that belong to the local agriculture and pearl diving trade. These trades used to be the lifeline of Abu Dhabi back in the day.

3

Al Hosn Palace

This palace is also known as the White Fort and is the oldest building you will get to see in Abu Dhabi. Historians say that the palace was built in the year 1793 and used to be the official residence for the government head back in the day. The interiors you will see in the palace today are completely different from what it used to be when it was originally created. Owned by the cultural foundation as a Centre for Research and documentation, within it, you will find a museum of traditional artefacts and historical paintings. You will also find various other displays and exhibits that speak of the history of Abu Dhabi. The courtyard of the palace adds to the splendid architecture and the Museum within the palace has a separate section which is dedicated just the history of the country.

The Women's Craft Centre

The women of Abu Dhabi have various skills like embroidery, basket making and weaving. If you want to take some traditional souvenirs back home, this is the place where you can look around to buy a good one.
