6 Unusual Things to Do in Siem Reap - The road less taken

Siem Reap is known for its cultural attractions and religious highlights, but here are a few unusual things you can do while you are in this town.

1

The Angkor Wat

When a person thinks of Siem Reap attractions, this is obviously the first thing they will add to their list of things to see. If you are put up at FCC Angkor Managed by Avani Hotels & Resorts, this place will be easier to access. Though this list is going to be about the unusual places to see in Siem Reap, the Angkor Wat still made it to this list because no trip to Cambodia is complete without you taking a look at this magnificent temple built back in the day.

2

Go to the Circus

Every night at 8:00 p.m. the circus is in town when you are in Siem Reap. The Cambodian Circus Foundation is the product of an NGO school and its training centre. Utilising the talents of youngsters who come from poor families, this centre and art school provide training in various forms like art and circus activities. You will be able to see an amazing show with the Cambodian twist if you make time to visit this circus.

3

Explore the artistic side of Cambodia

Something you might not have heard before is that Cambodia has a great history that is linked to pottery and art. You will be able to find ceramic that dates centuries back in time. Take a trip to the ceramics and fine arts centre in Cambodia and discover some of the greatest pieces made by the people of the country that speaks of their rich cultural heritage and past. You will also be able to learn how to make ceramic pots and you can take something home that you made with your own two hands.

4

Visit a floating village

Since Siem Reap is located near the big Lake in Cambodia, depending on which season your trip is going to be in, you might be able to visit the floating village. This village is home to many people of Cambodia who originate from the Vietnamese and other communities. You will even find churches and schools that float gently on the water.

5

Eat a spider

You have to be in a really adventurous mood to do this unusual activity in Cambodia. Eating a spider is one of the fun things to do across the country and you will find fried spiders in almost all the food stalls at the night markets in Cambodia. They are not alive, but they can look and feel alive while you put it in your mouth, so, good luck.

6

Get your feet fishy

The temple town in Cambodia is filled with huge tanks that have flesh-eating fish in them. This might sound scary but actually, these are the tiny little fish you find in malls where you have to dip your feet in the water and wait for them to nibble on your dead skin cells. This is not an unusual experience in the southern part of the world but it might be quite new for you. Some people find it extremely uncomfortable while others start giggling.
