Top Christian Nations In Asia

Asia is the largest continent in the world. But being the biggest doesn’t mean it always has the “lion’s share”. This statement is indeed true, when it comes to Christian religion in Asia.
Asia has been known as a vast continent. In size, it ranks first followed by Africa. It is the home of 4,621,105,000 people accounting 60% of the world’s population. But in terms of religion, Christianity in Asia has the smallest share. According to the article posted by Statista Research Department last April this year, Christianity ranks the lowest in religion in Asia. Among its religions, Hindu is on the top comprising 25% of the continent’s population. Christians, however, only got 7% share after Buddhists people who comprised 12 %.
With this small number of Christians, find out which among Asian nations grab the biggest share. Below is a list in no particular order.

*The Philippines
*

Ferdinand Magellan’s arrival in Cebu marks the Christianity in the country. Historically, the first Christian in the Philippines was Raja Humabon. Because of the Spanish colonization, Christianity spread throughout the country.

Today, the Philippine’s Christian population is about 93,423,498 which is almost 93% of nation’s entire population. Most of them are Roman Catholic and the rest are of Protestant in origin. Though there are different sects of Christianity in the country, they share the same way of worshipping. All of them have their mass mostly on Sunday. They both use Christian songs in their mass.
Armenia
“Armenia was the first country to adopt Christianity as a state religion in 301 A.D.,” said by the Tourism Committee of Armenia. In fact, Christian communities were established in the country way before the religion was declared a state religion. Apostle Bartholomew and Thaddeus in the 1st century were the people who introduced Christianity to the country.

According to the statistics from 2011, 94.8 of Armenians are Christian for which are members of the American Apostolic Church. Almost 3,256,113 of the people in the country are Christians.

*

East Timor otherwise known as Timor-Leste is a country located in Southeast Asia. It has a population of 1,167,242 people. According to CIA World Factbook, the country’s population is dominantly Roman Catholics accounting 97.6% of the population.

According to history, Christianity was introduced in Timor-Leste by the Dutch and Portuguese traders at the beginning of the 16th century.

Some Christian countries worth to mention are Georgia, Cyprus and Russia.
