Sri Lanka is a country that is popular all over the world for the stunning beaches and sunsets that can be witnessed from most sides of the country as Sri Lanka is an island.

Arugam Bay

Arugam bay is by far the most popular beach in Sri Lanka. This is a popular beach for surfers as it is known to be one of the best surfing beaches in the world. Arugam Bay was not accessible a few years ago due to the circumstances in the country but it is now developing to be an attractive beach that people from all over the world can enjoy!

Hikkaduwa

One of the main characteristics of the beach hotels in Sri Lanka is having a private beach or having direct access to the beach. Most of the hotels in Hikkaduwa boast of this opportunity as most of the hotels are located right along the coastline.

Galle

Galle is undoubtedly one of the most stunning beaches on the island. With the Galle fort in the distance, the Galle beach is the ideal location to come to wind down and relax while you enjoy the warm breeze and the lull of the ocean. Galle beach is also quite busy during public and school holidays as children and families love to come and enjoy the beach since the weather is warm and humid. Unawatuna

Unawatuna is another popular beach for surfing. The waves are known to be nice and sympathetic allowing an opportunity for those who are interested in trying surfing for the first time in their life. Unawatuna is located in the South West coast of the island and is not too far from the capital city Colombo.

Nilaweli

Nilaweli beach is one of the most picturesque beaches on the island. The colour of the water alone makes people stare at the beach as you see the waves splashing against the golden sandy beach. The clear horizon is another main attraction of the Nilaweli beach. Even though not many were able to witness this beautiful landscape a few years back due to the civil war, the Nilaweli beach gets rather crowed now.

Kalpitiya

Kalpitiya is a beach located in the North West of the country and it is one of the most popular locations to go dolphin and whale watching. Apart from being able to see the free-spirited marine animals, the Kalpitiya beach is famously known for being able to defend the island during war times. There is a small fort that is maintained by the Sri Lanka army which people can go and visit.

Pasikudah

Pasikudah beach is located to the Northeast of the island and has been gaining popularity after the country ceased the civil war which lasted almost three decades. There are so many hotels being built along the coastline which allows many people to go and enjoy the city and the stunning beach.
