The city of Colombo in Sri Lanka has a variety of things to see regardless of what kind of traveller you are.

Colombo National Museum

This Museum is known for being Sri Lanka's first cultural and historical structure. As a visitor, when you enter this amazing establishment in the middle of the city you will be greeted by a massive stone figure of Lord Buddha which dates back to the ninth century. At the Museum, you will also come across many fascinating artefacts that go back for centuries. Some of these artefacts also tell you a colourful story and represent the country's eventful history. Some of these displays include carvings, statues and artwork from the various periods in Sri Lanka.

The Viharamahadevi Park

The popular Viharamahadevi park was originally built as the Victoria Park, but the name it has now is to honour a popular Queen of Sri Lanka. This Queen was also the mother of King Dutugemunu. The park attracts a steady line of visitors who include both the locals and the travellers. You will various kind of visitors at this park, including romantic couples, groups of friends and families. The Old City Hall

The Old City Hall in Sri Lanka dates back to the year 1865. Being a reminder of the Sri Lankan British colonial period, the structure serves to be a stark reminder of the nation's past. The galleries found on the ground floor of this building have some antique trucks and various equipment but the real attraction in this building is found upstairs. If you walk up the mahogany stairs, you will find a mind-blowing site within the former council chamber.

The Dutch Period Museum

If you are a lover of history, your sightseeing attraction list of Colombo will definitely be incomplete if you do not include this museum. The building inside this Museum is home to many interesting attractions. This structure used to be the house of a former Dutch governor. Afterwards, the building was a military hospital, a post office, and at one point in history, it was even a police station.

The Galle Face Green

This is one of the most popular hangout spots in Colombo for all the youngsters. If you want to have the best view of the sunset while you are staying in this city this is the place to go to. The Galle Face Green will usually be crowded during the weekends but during the weekdays it will not be as crowded except for a few romantic couples here and there. You can try the local food at the many stalls found by the beach. You can't really get down in the waters at Galle Face because it is the rocky part of the ocean in Colombo. You will be able to partake in numerous activities like walking, jogging and also flying a kite.
