My Top 10 Reads from 2019

Born a Crime Audiobook | Trevor Noah | Audible.co.uk

This book will make you laugh and cry.
It is an intelligently put together book of stories from Trevors life which illuminate life in South Africa before and after Nelson Mandela’s release, the artificial divisions or social constructs of race and their impacts, what it is really like to be an outsider, womens experience through the life of his mother, and what poverty really looks like.

I have never been so disappointed for a book to end as I wanted to be transported into Trevor’s life for so much longer.
The rich detail, the sights, smells and sounds of South Africa, made even better by the fact that he narrated the book himself. This surely needs to be made into a TV series or Movie.
Trevor has a new fan!

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine Audiobook | Gail Honeyman | Audible.co.uk

Written by Gail Honeyman, narrated by Cathleen McCarron. This is an exquisite read that I'd highly recommend. Soon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon

Oversubscribed Audiobook | Daniel Priestley | Audible.in

When I wrote my book #RockingYourRole, it felt like every time I met a business person in London they would say ‘Are you on the Key Person of Influence Programme’ and when I said ‘no’, they’d tell me that I was doing everything that was taught on it. The programme was run by Daniel Priestly, and because everyone was telling me that I was already doing what he’d advised. I didn’t bother to investigate his work or read his books. However I stumbled on his book ‘Oversubscribed ‘ recently and thought that I’d give it a try.

Are you in business, do want to learn the strategies that mean that you have an abundance of clients waiting to buy your product or service? If so, then this book promises to share how to do it.

The book definitely has some strategies to try, but what I think it does most successfully is motivate you to want more than you have and believe that it’s achievable.

There are some tangible things that I will try as a result of reading the book:
Asking more often for referrals, creating waiting lists and launches.

This is worth a #read for new and established businesses alike.

It’s a shame he doesn’t read the book himself for audible, just the intro and closing words. If Michelle Obama could find the time I am sure that he could! 😂

So many insights and lessons on life, relationships, parenting, being a working Mum and being a woman of colour in the spotlight from #MichelleObama

The Code of the Extraordinary Mind Audiobook | Vishen Lakhiani | Audible.co.uk

Written by Vishen Lakhiani, narrated by Vishen Lakhiani. Just finished listening to #thecodeoftheextraordinarymind on #audible 📕It’s a great book for challenging your #mindset and creating the life you desire. 📕@vishen is great at breaking complex ideas down and making them practical and he even invents news words like #brules and #blissipline 📕The book has a wealth of resources that go alongside it and you are regularly recommended to go to @mindvalley to access them. 📕I think that this book is better read than listened to, then you mark the pages, stop and go to the website and do the exercises, and then go onto to the next chapter. Listening felt like just skimming the surface. 📕I wasn’t keen on the name dropping of the people that Vishen hangs out with, like #RichardBranson and #ariannahuffington but I guess for those who need that social proof that his ideas are legit, they might find it reassuring. 📚The book ends with a daily practice that only takes 15 mins a day to train your mind, which I think is a great idea that I am going to try. 📕This is worth a read, not many books have whole sections on #forgiveness as a key to success, you’ll find at least one nugget of knowledge to help you towards an extraordinary life.
