Adventurous Things to Do in Sigiriya A mix of adventure and history!

Sigiriya, or the Lion Rock, is located in one of three culture points of Sri Lanka. Even if you are not going here for the culture and history, you can still visit for hiking, elephant safari, boat trips and so much more. Here is a list of the adventurous things you can do at the Lion Rock.

1

Sigiriya Rock

The major highlight of this place is the Lion Rock which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is also known as the eighth wonder of the world and the place was built by a king. The scenery is absolutely mind-blowing. The climb to the top is relatively easy but also offers an experience of a lifetime with incredible frescoes, paintings, well-manicured gardens, walkways, massive lion paws and so much more. Besides, if you're looking for a Sigiriya hotel close to the Lion Rock, you can check out properties like Water Garden Sigiriya Hotel, for a start.

2

Pidurangala climb

If you want a view of the Lion Rock from afar, then you need to climb the opposite Mountain known as Pidurangala. This is quite an interesting climb which showcases spectacular views of the rock. There is also a temple close-by that you can explore if you have the time for it.

3

Eating local food

How is this an adventure you might be asking yourself? Well, trying new food and being brave enough to try something you've never tasted before is quite an adventure. You have no idea what it is going to give. It might be your next favourite thing or something that can put off your appetite for the next few days. Having said that, Sri Lankan food is truly exquisite, and they have a range of local food that you have to try when you are here in this beautiful island nation.

4

The Golden Temple

You cannot come to Sri Lanka, to Sigiriya especially, and not visit the Golden Temple. This is one of the most important temples in this area and the cave complex here also attracts many tourists from around the world. It has been a pilgrimage place for more than 22 centuries and it is one of the well-preserved cave temples of this country.

5

Elephant Safaris

The last one on this list is definitely the elephant safari. This is an experience you cannot miss out on. This country is well known for its elephants. Therefore, when in Sigiriya, you have to visit the National Park which will take you on a safari. The open roof in the jeep will fit around 4 to 6 people. They will charge you roughly about $30 per head. You can either book the Safari through your hotel or a travel agent. Make sure to compare the prices, as hotels do tend to mark up these prices and you might end up paying extra.
