Top hotspots on Mahe island – The magic beyond the beaches

This is a very fun tour that takes you through the history and process behind making rum in Seychelles. The tour is only 30-40 minutes long and you'll get to try some of the island's best rum varieties. The distillery also has a bar-restaurant to try a few cocktails and have a short meal.

Also known by the locals as the Cathedral of Victoria the church is a relic from when the French ruled these islands. The Immaculate Conception Cathedral is considered by many as the heart of Mahe'.

One of the most famous attractions of the island this tea factory is responsible for most of the tea found on Mahe'. If you do visit you can participate in a free 20-minute tour offered by the factory. They take you through the process of making tea while you can also try the famous fragrant Seyte' and Vanilla tea.

This 35-hectare spice garden was first planted by a French spice merchant by the name of Pierre Poivre. The garden is beautiful and aromatic and even has a small museum with items used in the spice trade in the island's colonial past.

The setting is casual and you can pick from a variety of slots and tables or you could just play some poker.

The Botanical Garden of Seychelles has a history reaching back over 100 years. A large collection of flora and fauna both native and non-native to the islands can be found here. The garden is spread across 5 acres and is famous for its giant tortoises and towering palm trees.

This gallery was first built in 1915 and was later restored in 1977. The building is made of hardwood and houses a wide collection of George Camille's original canvases, assemblages, embossed coppers and limited edition paintings.

The Natural History Museum of Seychelles is easily one of the most visited sites in Victoria. It houses many artefacts that date back to the country's independence as well as exhibits tracing back the evolution of the flora and fauna found here.

The most famous vantage point in Seychelles; mission lode offers a spectacular view of mountain ranges and the sea. The site has importance in history as a place missionaries ran a school for freed slaves until the slave trade was abolished in 1834.

In 2014 the liberty monument replaced the original Zonm Lib statue which had been erected in 1978 in celebration of Seychelles' independence from the British. The new bronze statue was created by Tom Bowers; a South African sculptor.
