5 Reasons why Seychelles is Worth the Distance – If Just the World’s Most Beautiful Beaches aren’t Enough a Reason

The beaches of Seychelles are considered some of the best in the world but they may seem very far away in the middle of the Indian Ocean. But it is an adventure worth taking for many reasons, here are 6 and it's not really as far away as you think – at least not in the age we live in.

1

You can get there faster than you think

Seychelles is a group of 115 islands off the coast of Kenya in the Indian Ocean. It may sound like a great distance and at one time in history it might've been but in today's day and age it is just a flight away. You can travel to Seychelles from nearly all major North American gateways through many different airlines. The ticket prices are quite reasonable; a return ticket on Ethiopian Airlines from Washington would cost roughly $1300 in economy.

2

Splurge or save at local hotels

Mahe' is the main island in Seychelles and the Victoria is its capital city. Victoria is quite cosmopolitan and is a centre for arts and culture. The island has a large portfolio of hotels, restaurants, pubs and bars for every price point. Avani Barbarons Seychelles Resort comes highly recommended and can be called a quintessential Seychelles beach resort. Undoubtedly one of the best places to stay when visiting the island it is probably not the cheapest but rest assured if you have a tighter budget there are more than enough options for you to choose from.

3

Explore the many picturesque beaches

There are countless beaches along the many coastlines of Seychelles that seem as if they were brought to life from a dream. Beau Vallon on Mahe and Bai Lazare on Praslin are definitely the most popular. Anse Lazio on Praslin is preferred by snorkelers and water sports enthusiasts and is commonly called the best in Seychelles.

4

Tour and taste at a local rum distillery

If you enjoy some good rum you definitely need to make the trip to Seychelles. It seems as if tropical beaches and good rum vibe easily wherever you look in the world. When in Seychelles be sure to visit the Takamaka Rum Distillery in Victoria. You can take a tour of the facility and see how rum is made from the pressing of sugar cane to distillation. You can taste a variety of blended drinks and the distillery's premium rums while buying a few to take home.

5

Island hop without going broke

If you are on a budget then spending your trip on Mahe' might be the most cost-effective option. This, however, does not mean you need to miss out on island hopping altogether. There are many day trips available from Mahe' which are quite cheap and even cheaper if you book at least 15 days in advance. A round trip to a nearby island would cost roughly around $100.

6

Indulge in the local cuisine

The island food is nothing short of miraculous. If you are open to trying new things the Seychellois Creole cuisine will blow your mind. Local favourites include eggplant fritters, chicken curry and fish stew.
