You have the family together going out to lunch. As you get on the highway, you hear a finicky sound coming from your engine but you choose to ignore it. Within minutes, your car starts to disobey you and you are forced to veer off to the side of the road. Although you have no idea what’s wrong with your car, you better have a plan of action to keep your family and your car safe. Below I’ve listen the four things you should do to keep yourself safe and get your car back on the road as soon as possible.
First, focus on getting your car as far from the road as possible. Position your car past the emergency lane and away from traffic. Immediately, turn your hazard lights on to alert other drivers that you are stopped and to prevent an accident.
Whether you have a Ford F-150 or the Ford Focus, staying in your car while traffic is zooming past you is extremely dangerous. If you can, get everybody out of the vehicle. Exit through the doors that are not next to traffic and stay as close to the highway wall as you can.
If you are a member of Triple A, now’s the time to call them. Give them as much information as you can about your situation and focus on the fact that you are in danger as you stand on the side of the highway. Once they understand that you are in danger, you shouldn’t have to wait too long for help to arrive.
Most breakdowns can be fixed on the side of the freeway, whether you drive a Toyota or a Ford, they should be able to get you moving, at least temporarily. If the repair team can fix your car, you should get back on the road as soon as you can. Focus on gaining speed in the hard-shoulder before you merge back in with traffic.
