Five Things that Will Survive a House Fire

There are a few poor souls that have the unfortunate experience of seeing their house go up in flames. Fire consumes all things in its path with no mercy. And yet, some things manage to survive the onslaught, sometimes emerging unscathed from the inferno. You might be lucky to find some precious valuables in the ashes, for there are several things that, more often than not, survive a house fire.

1

Holy Books

Holy Books

Bibles and other holy books manage to survive fires. Some believe they are divinely protected by their deity, while others believe it is strictly coincidental. Firefighters say that they usually survive because they are backed in a wooden case that is close to the ground, which is a place that fires sometimes don’t reach. It may seem counter-intuitive to place valuables on the ground, but doing so will significantly reduce the chances of them being consumed in the inferno.

2

A Fireproof Safe

Obviously this will survive, because it’s in the name. A fireproof safe is designed to survive a fire, although it is difficult to anticipate when such a safe would be necessary. If you have some expensive valuables that need protecting at all costs, a fireproof safe is an excellent option. It will always survive.

3

Packed Tight-Papers

Packed Tight-Papers

Paper is obviously one of the least fireproof substances in existence, when it is packed tight it survives a fire. The same applies to old books or records that are crammed tightly into a box.

4

Metallic Items

Metallic Items

Since metal can’t burn, it will most likely survive a fire in a salvageable state. A computer hard drive, for example, may be a bit melted and warped, but it is possible to extract the data from it before throwing it away. However, a fire can get so hot that it can melt metal, so not all metallic things will survive.

This is true; most things of true value may burn and crumble, but the one thing you actually want to lose will survive. At least your spouse will be happy.
