Top Reasons To Visit Nuwara Eliya - A cool getaway

Nuwara Eliya has always been a special place in Sri Lanka and here are a few reasons why you must definitely visit this hilly holiday destination.

1

The Gregory Lake

This is one of the most photographed and also one of the most visited places in Nuwara Eliya, and for good reason too. If you are put up at accommodation in Nuwara Eliya the likes of Galway Heights, then this Lake might as well be a view from your room window. Being one of the most tranquil and calming places in the area you will find horses gracing the banks of this lake and leisurely eating the lush green grass found here. While you are hanging out by the lake, you will notice that a lot of locals and foreigners both enjoy picnics here, go on paddleboards, ride horses or simply take a walk around the area.

2

The Victoria Park

Nuwara Eliya is known to have a very old England vibe and this park is one of the better examples of how the vibe came to be. Named after the popular Queen Victoria this park has been long-standing since the year 1897 and is highly popular with both foreigners and the locals. Find flowers in bloom at the Victoria park that cannot be found in most other parts the country. The park is also much loved and visited by birdwatchers as they will be able to spot a wide variety of birds here. The Mini train that takes the children around the park is something that every little kid would have tried when growing up in Sri Lanka.

3

The Bazaar

One of the most popular shopping destinations in Nuwara Eliya, this is also known as the winter market because you will find quite a lot of Winter attire and accessories for a great price. You will also find other kinds of goods that are specific to Hill countries but the dominant product sold at this market are Winter clothing and if you're planning on staying at Nuwara Eliya for a few days or weeks during the colder months of the year this is a great place to stop by right at the beginning of your trip to purchase some Winter clothing. A lot of foreigners who are visiting Nuwara Eliya will also purchase these cheaper Winter clothing that and then take it back to use in their colder countries.

4

The tea estates

Being one of the major sources of income for the people in the area visiting a tea estate while you are in this hilly destination is a must-do. Most of the tea estates also have a factory right by it where they produce the tea, and some of them also let you go in and take a look around at how the tea is made during some days of the week. Regardless of whether you tour a tea factory or not when in Nuwara Eliya, you definitely must have a cup of tea at the local stalls.
