Eating more home-grown vegetables is very helpful to the environment. Vegetables, beans and nuts can actually add a lot of flavor to our diets if used correctly. In Asian countries, most of the food is plant-based, so they include vegetables with almost every dish creating more delicious and healthier meals.
It's always good to try new foods and be adventurous with our meals. Sadly, more and more people are eating the same types of dishes which use the same ingredients. Typically, colorful plates lead to more nutritious and flavorful meals.
More people need to compost! It is an efficient way to throw away our food and reuse our food waste.
When we throw food away not only are we ridding of natural resources, we are wasting money. The average home wastes around 25-30% of the food and groceries that it buys.
The most popular meat in today's society is chicken. Though chicken provides us with protein, we can also get it from plants! Omnivore's should strive to even out their consumption of meat and vegetables.
We should try to be more careful and aware of the information on our food's packaging. Usually the packaging has standards that you can read to see how the food was produced. We should look for Fairtrade (protecting farmers and workers in developing countries), Freedom Food (animal welfare), MSC and ASC (seafood), and RSPO (palm oil).
Foods that are high in fat, salt and sugar should generally not be consumed in high amounts. We need to be careful because they are obviously bad for our health.
