Found on the edge of the South of an atoll, this is the biggest city and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Maldives. It used to be called Mahal because it used to be the place where the Royal dynasties lived in and are now locally also known as the king's island. Being the capital of the country, you will find quite a lot of attractions that tell you the story about how Maldives came to be what it is today. Some places you could visit while in the capital are the Grand Friday mosque, the fish market, and the national museum of Maldives.
