Recovering From a Cold

Spring is on the horizon, but winter isn’t through with us yet. Winter will do just about anything in its last stand to give us a cold, but we must resist. Still, some of us become casualties in this war, stricken with a most inconvenient common cold. Ameritech College recommends these tips to recovering swiftly from the cold, so that your life can resume as normal within days.

1

Combating the Cold

Combating the Cold

Spring is slowly emerging from the white blankets of snow that cover the earth every so often, but winter is making one last stand. Winter will not leave without leaving its mark, and sometimes that makes you a victim of its wrath. And by wrath, we mean getting a cold. The common cold is a minor illness that can take a major toll on you, which is why it is important to recover as quickly as possible. Here are some suggestions from Ameritech College to help you shrug the wrath of winter:

2

Sleep

Sleep

People are busy with their day-to-day routine, but it is better to take a break and get a lot of sleep. Colds are prolonged by people who attempt to continue working a full schedule, when what they really need is to take a day and rest. Taking even one day to recover will do wonders, for doing so will conserve the energy you need to function in later days. The common cold drains you of energy, so take it slow and get sleep.

3

Drink Fluids

Drink Fluids

The term “fluids” in this case is a very strict term, meaning water, juices and teas only. Sodas can potentially make your cold worse if that’s all you drink. Ingesting large amounts of water will flush out your body, allowing it to release bacteria and such through the excretory system. You may need to go to the bathroom often, but it will be a sure sign you’re doing the right thing to get rid of that cold. Aim for having clear urine. Of course, this is always a good habit to have according to Ameritech College.

4

Boost Your Immune System

Boost Your Immune System

The best way to go about this is to take a lot of vitamin C, either through tablets or orange juice. Emergen-C packets are also effective, because they have a truckload of calcium in each little one. Vitamin C will help combat the illness while you’re resting.

5

Practice Good Hygiene

Practice Good Hygiene

Washing your hands and bathing regularly will help you recover more quickly, for it helps prevent the spread of the disease throughout your body. Not only that, but it will also prevent it from spreading to whoever else lives with you. Besides, a good hot shower will clear out the nasal passage and help you feel better overall.

6

Take Medications and Cough Drops

Take Medications and Cough Drops

Any over the counter medication that addresses cold symptoms should do the trick. If you have a sore throat, take cough drop with you everywhere. They will sooth your throat and help clear some of the congestion.

Ameritech College is all about being healthy and avoiding sickness. If you find yourself under siege by winter’s cold, take every action to ensure you have a swift recovery.
