Are you under the impression that your hearing is invincible? You may want to think again; there are many ways you can damage your ears and boating, without ear plugs, is one of them.
If you’ve decided to unearth your boat from its boat cover and take it out for a spin this year, you may want to bring some ear plugs along. Ear plugs protect the inner ear from water, which can lead to pain inner ear infections.
Coming straight out of the cover of winter and into the ice cold water of the lake can be a bit of a shock. After taking your first dive off the boat for the season, you can easily become water logged. Getting too much water in your head through your ears can make you easily nauseous. To avoid nausea, simply squish some of those little ear plugs into each ear.
The Inner ear is extremely sensitive and can even be affected by temperature changes. The cold water of the lake can quickly agitate the inner ear and cause infection. Once the boat cover is off and you are sailing through the air, the wind can also cause ear problems if your ear is not protected by ear plugs.
Last but not least, boating provides a noisy sort of enjoyment. Although the noise from the boat is annoying, it can also permanently damage your ear. If you are not ready to let go of your hearing quite yet, go out to your garage right now and place a bag of ear plugs underneath your boat cover. Wearing ear plugs is a great way to keep your ears covered and not suffer hearing loss in the future.
