South Africa vs England: Should we worry about Kagiso Rabada?

South Africa vs England: Should we worry about Kagiso Rabada?

Time is starting to run just a little short for Kagiso Rabada, the practically undoubted jewel in South Africa’s bowling crown, to rediscover his famed, most lethal form for the glamour four-Test home summer series against England.
Cricket fans who want to watch the live-action of England Vs South Africa series can get England Vs South Africa Tickets from our most trusted and economical online ticketing platform.

Perhaps no help cooperatively that the current crop of Proteas players, struggling to an unusual degree in two of the international formats.
The shortest of the brands, incongruously, is the one where South Africa looks less vulnerable right now than the others.
They have won four and shared one of their last five two-sided series in T20, which is a far well situation than their Test, ODI predicament.
The transitional era where they probably have a minor group of true superstars in their general midst than in any other post-isolation period.

Kagiso Rabada is highly marketable status and normally very influential role has tapered off in line with so many other national players in recent months.
T20 is lopsidedly geared toward batting exploits: the very best of bowlers, even when seemingly at the top of their games, can find it an unforgiving environment ... especially when luck turns elusive.
Kagiso Rabada has been falling prey at times to that sort of hallmark during the MSL, even as his bowling has seldom glaringly lacked zip or desire.
Kagiso Rabada is also cutting a slightly perplexed, rarely irritated-looking figure as the event simply continues a penchant for several months of the 24-year-old failing to match.

Rabada currently sports three wickets in the quartet of games at an unflattering average of 44 and a leaky economy rate of nearly nine runs to the over.
That is well down on his career T20 stats of 100 wickets at 20.89, and also the well superior economy of 7.66.
Kagiso is leanness of the last few months as a Proteas match-winner becomes that little more concerning when the shrinking volume of time to the English Test series.

It is possible, after all, that with Jozi Stars in a hard battle from here to make the top-three cut, their campaign will end by December 10.
Only six more round-robin matches still to play, so a very maximum of 24 competitive overs for someone like Rababa, under that situation, before the pretty formidable English five-day challenges.
The arrangement of the MSL was never ideal for the Proteas players, including him, who will have to make a rather sudden shift from T20 to long-form mode.

Rabada if clearly in need of renewed confidence or miles in the legs - might just be considered for duty in a 4-day Franchise Series match between the Lions and Titans at the Wanderers.
South Africa would want Rabada in camp over that period to specifically prepare as a group for the first Test.
A well hope is that his statistical luck turns in what is left of the MSL, giving him a better chance of feeling more like the incisive “KG”.

Graeme Smith turns down South Africa Cricket’s Director role

Graeme Smith turns down South Africa Cricket’s Director role

South African former captain Graeme Smith has withdrawn his interest in becoming Cricket South Africa's (CSA) director of cricket.
Cricket fans who want to watch the live-action of England Vs South Africa series can get England Vs South Africa Tickets from our most trusted and economical online ticketing platform.
In a statement issued on his Twitter, Smith said he was not confident that he would have been given the freedom to do the job on his own terms.
Smith confirmed that he had been interviewed by CSA for a position that would effectively have put him in charge of the national squad, who have endured a miserable set of results.
I would love to have taken on the role; the 38-year-old Smith told.
However, in spite of my obvious desire to make a difference, during the long and, at times, frustrating process over the last 10 or so weeks of discussions.

I have not established the necessary confidence that I would be given the level of freedom and support to newcomer the required changes.
Graeme Smith's signal of the timeline of negotiations may explain why the key positions of national squad director and director of cricket have not been filled only six weeks before the first of four home tests match against England.
The squad director will report to the director of cricket, who will in turn report to chief executive Thabang Moroe.
The relatively inexpert Enoch Nkwe was appointed interim team director for a tour of India in which South Africa lost all three Tests by wide margins.
The temporary director of cricket, former international Corrie van Zyl, was recently suspended along with two other officials in a controversy over money owed to players for last year's Super League T20 competition.
Media reports indicate, however, that Van Zyl remains a contender for the full-time position.
Smith concluded his speech by saying his passion for South Africa's cricketing fortunes remained steadfast.
"I give my heartfelt best wishes to whoever does take the role on. I will continue to support the players and give my advice and guidance whenever I can."
News that Smith was in line for the director role gave rise to hope that he might have been able to transform South African cricket as Rassie Erasmus did with the country's rugby Springboks, who recently won the Rugby World Cup.
Erasmus looked to have been the freedom to run the team without political or administrative interference.
Smith scored 9,265 runs in 117 Test matches, hitting 27 hundred.

Former Proteas captain says CSA needs to move quickly on new DOC

Former Proteas captain says CSA needs to move quickly on new DOC

Former Proteas captain Shaun Pollock has called out Cricket South Africa (CSA), urging the organization to move quickly to appoint a new Director of Cricket (DOC).
Cricket fans who want to watch the live-action of England Vs South Africa series can get England Vs South Africa Tickets from our most trusted and economical online ticketing platform.
To say that these are uncertain times for cricket in the country is an understatement, and there are a number of issues at play that have raised concern over the immediate future of the game.
CSA remains in hundreds of millions of Rands in debt, it is in an ongoing legal battle with the South African Cricketers Association (SACA) over a proposed domestic restructure.
It is battling to turn the Mzansi Super League into a lucrative product and then just it suspended three senior officials - Corrie van Zyl, Clive Eksteen and Naasei Appiah - in bizarre fashion.
The more pressing concern, though, is that there is currently nobody operating in the director of cricket (DOC) role with England's visit to South Africa over the festive season for four Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.
Van Zyl had been serving as the acting (DOC), but he is now suspended.
Graeme Smith had been strongly linked to the role before removing his interest two weeks ago, citing a "frustrating" experience with the CSA leadership, and CSA was then understood to be negotiating with another potential candidate.
The organization through its CEO Thabang Moroe had stated publicly that an announcement on the role would be made, but that announcement never came.
The former skipper Pollock said that CSA needed to move quickly in resolving the leadership around the Proteas.
"I don't know how the DOC role will work when everything is put in place, but with a massive series against England just around the corner, things need to happen quickly so that plans can be put in place for that tour," Pollock said.
Sports situations in South Africa, as with most things, are complex and the DOC will have to understand the sensitivity of the country and South African cricket, Pollock said.
Pollock believes that the national team needs to rebuild after losing a number of key players over the last two years.
"When the management is set up, smart choices need to be made with good game plans," said Pollock.
This tour of England is going to be a big one and will be indicative of what this South African team is capable of.
While there is still no clarity on the DOC role, Enoch Nkwe is expected to continue in his capacity as an interim team director for the England series.

Listen to Day five in Cape Town as Dom Sibley and Ben Stokes put tourists in a good position

Listen to Day five in Cape Town as Dom Sibley and Ben Stokes put tourists in a good position

It’s day five of the second Test and England needs eight wickets to beat South Africa in Cape Town. Dom Sibley made 133 not out his first ton in Test cricket and the first England opener to do so at Newlands since Jack Hobbs in 1910.
England’s National cricket team is planned to tour South Africa from December 2019 to February 2020 to play four test matches, three one day games and three matches of Twenty20 International. Cricket enthusiast can get South Africa Vs England Tickets online from our most conviction and consistent online ticketing marketing platform.
Ben Stokes hit an impressive 72 to help put England in a firm position for a final day push for victory. Ahead of day four, Sibley who played a big part the previous day was praised by Gareth Batty, a member of the commentary team. Having scored for fun at the county level, he said it was brilliant seeing him do it on the big stage.

Ahead of day four, Sibley who played a big part the previous day was praised by Gareth Batty, a member of the commentary team. Having scored for fun at the county level, he said it was brilliant seeing him do it on the big stage.

“He, with Joe Root, has put England in a wonderful position,” he said.
“I’ve spoken to him a few times and he was feeling pressure because he’s used to scoring runs. He has the game for international cricket 100 percent.”
Sibley looked very calm and collected in the second Test at Cape Town on Monday. Sibley also demonstrates he can bat in a different approach, that he can play the situation. We can't complain England has lost the ability to bat long, and then call it boring.
Dom Sibley’s Knock:
It is an English peculiarity to focus on what a player is not fairly so good at, but after his maiden Test century, it is best to contemplate on what Dom Sibley can do very well.
The longer he batted here in the second Test, the latter he played the ball, letting it come right to him and playing it under his nose. Sibley looked very composed.
From time to time, because we talk daily about Test cricket, there can be a propensity to make decisions about players too soon.
Think back, for instance, to when Steve Smith emerged and people were calling him a bit of a clown. But just look at the way he changed and adapted and became a run machine. Sibley is no Steve Smith, but he knows his game and proved here that he can bat long at this level.

Stokes was the ideal foil for Sibley on Monday because there was a declaration to be set up and England did not want him slow towards his milestone.
With Ben Stokes playing aggressively, it enabled Sibley to sit there and get the 15 runs he needed overnight.
And then, after reaching his century, Sibley showed he can bat differently, that he can play the situation.

Kagiso Rabada has some impressive stats at Port Elizabeth

Kagiso Rabada has some impressive stats at Port Elizabeth

Kagiso Rabada could pass the 200-wicket mark in Test cricket when South Africa and England square off in Port Elizabeth in the third Test this week.
The pace ace has already claimed 195 scalps and he would become just the seventh South African Test cricketer to cross the 200-wicket milestone should he bag five in Port Elizabeth.

Pre-empting such milestones might seem a bit frivolous, but as the great Vernon Philander once said: “stats don’t lie”.
And Kagiso Rabada has some stats at St. George’s Park. It’s easy to forget he is just 24 years old, but the quickie hasn’t needed much time to pile on the records.

Rabada has played just four Tests at Port Elizabeth, but he is already the third-leading wicket-taker at the ground for the Proteas. While he’s a little way off leapfrogging Allan Donald for the most wickets by a South African at St. George’s Park, there’s every chance he could snaffle the record in the coming years.
Most wickets by a South African bowler at St. George’s Park
Rabada will have fond memories of the 2018 Test against Australia, where he took six for 54 – the eighth-best figures for any bowler at the ground.
The Port Elizabeth pitch has yielded somewhat mixed results in recent years. In 2018, it was fast and furious in the early stages of the game, before it began cracking up and bringing the spinners into play.
Against Sri Lanka in 2019, though, it was low and slow with only the first innings yielding more than 200 runs for a team and the visitors winning by eight wickets inside three days.

The four-match Test series between South Africa and England is level at one-all. The Proteas secured a convincing 107-run win in the first Test in Centurion, but England bounced back, winning by 189 runs at Newlands.
The large margin belies the tense finish, though. The nail-biting fixture went deep into the fifth day, with South Africa coming agonizingly close to grinding out a heroic draw. The third Test will begin in Port Elizabeth on 16 January 2020.

South African bowler Anrich Nortje enjoyed England Match in Third Test on his home ground

South African bowler Anrich Nortje enjoyed England Match in Third Test on his home ground

England cricket team is intended to tour South Africa from December 2019 to February 2020 to play 4 test matches, 3 one-day games and 3 matches of Twenty20 International. Cricket fanatic can acquire South Africa Vs England Tickets online from our most assurance and dependable online ticketing marketing place.
South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje is relishing the prospect of a fast-bowling showdown in the third Test, which starts at his home ground, St.George's Park, on Thursday.

Young Fast Bowler:
The 26-year-old, who hails from the industrial town of Uitenhage 20 miles outside Port Elizabeth, has been his country's most successful bowler in the series so far with 10 wickets at an average 21.8. He has also been consistently quicker than Kagiso Rabada although he does not necessarily see himself as the team's 'enforcer'.
'I'm happy with any role; just to be playing is a big honour.
Containing, striking, it doesn't matter - I'm still learning about international cricket,' Nortje before training yesterday.
News that Mark Wood has been at full pace during training for England and may replace James Anderson on Thursday was greeted positively by Nortje: 'It's good to have a few quicks in the series, the more the better, it gets the boys going and lifts the energy levels,' Nortje said with more of an eye on the final Test in Johannesburg next week.
'St.George's is a bit lower and slower than other pitches, it's different for quicks, but it will be good to see us at the Wanderers with balls flying around the batsmen's ears and the keeper taking them above his head,' Nortje said.
Wood and Jofra Archer have both admitted to a desire to be the fastest bowler on the day but Nortje says he doesn't pay attention to the speed gun readings - much.
Fast Bowling:
'Not really, it's not a competition. However, once the blood is flowing it is quite nice to see it on the big screen! I might keep an eye on it but it's not something I set out to do.' His fastest recorded speed. 'Something 150ish,' he said with a grin. It is, in fact, 155 kph (96.3 mph).

Joe Root counts as two of Nortje's 10 wickets but he is not about to claim bragging rights over the England captain: 'I'm not getting ahead of myself and thinking 'this is a guy I can get out' or anything like that. I'm just sticking to the plans we have for him, like all the other batsmen.'
Whoever does replace Anderson will do well to heed Nortje's 'top tip' for successful fast bowling on one of the country's slower wickets: 'Pitch it up!

Proteas assistant coach Enoch Nkwe confident Bavuma will captain SA in the future

Proteas assistant coach Enoch Nkwe confident Bavuma will captain SA in the future

Proteas assistant coach Enoch Nkwe has called for patience when it comes to the transformation of the national cricket team‚ adding that Temba Bavuma will lead South Africa in the future.
Speaking to media ahead of the third Test against England starting here at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth on Thursday‚ Nkwe said interim director of cricket Graeme Smith and head coach Mark Boucher were very aware of the need to transform cricket and that planning was afoot backstage.
There has been much heated debate among followers of the game following the omission of Bavuma for the Test series against England.
England cricket team is intended to tour South Africa from December 2019 to February 2020 to play 4 test matches, 3 one day games and 3 matches of Twenty20 International. Cricket fanatic can acquire South Africa Vs England Tickets online from our most assurance and dependable online ticketing marketing place.

Enoch Nkwe on Bavuma:
Nkwe says he understands the frustration‚ adding that transformation is on the agenda of the interim Proteas management structure.

"He is in the process of making sure that from a mental‚ emotional and skills point of view that when he gets that opportunity to come back‚ whether it’s in the next Test match or it’s in a different format‚ that he takes ownership of his position and he delivers 10 times more than what he has done.”
“We are really confident and believe in him and Boucher is the same and the rest of the team. At the moment there will always be questions around that. All I’m going to ask is that let’s be a little bit more patient. We are trying to put a few things in place so that we can shape the right direction.”

Asked if Smith and Boucher really understand transformation Nkwe said: “I think they do. In the very new future, there will be some changes. It’s not something that has been ignored.

Nkwe said Bavuma‚ who averages 31.24 in Test cricket‚ has not had much luck during his 39 Test career.

“If you look at it‚ let’s be honest‚ he’s been unlucky. There’s been a time where I think he’s got 94‚ 96 or 95 not out or something. One big hit and he’s over the line. He was unfortunate.” He said
“There have been times where he got 70‚ he got 80. People tend to forget the situation he has come in for the Proteas. They have been challenging and he was able to take the team and put them in a much healthier position.”
Bavuma as a new captain:
Now is also confident Bavuma will come back stronger and captain SA.

“He’s going to do everything in his power that when the next opportunity comes that he’s ready for it‚," he said.
"He wants to be in this environment. Hopefully, in the future, he performs well enough and he can lead the team. Having worked with him‚ he’s a strong leader‚ very smart and he’s able to lead a massive group of people to greater heights.”

SA vs ENG 3rd Test Dream11 Team Prediction

SA vs ENG 3rd Test Dream11 Team Prediction

England cricket team is intended to tour South Africa from December 2019 to February 2020 to play 4 test matches, 3 one-day games and 3 matches of Twenty20 International. Cricket fanatic can acquire South Africa Vs England Tickets online from our most assurance and dependable online ticketing marketing place.
With the series delicately poised at one-all, England and South Africa take the center-stage as they face each other in the third Test, starting this Thursday. While the hosts began their cricketing season with a thumping win at the Centurion, England came back with a stunning performance of their won in the second Test.
Both teams have gotten a fair idea of their one another, which adds more spice to this Test match. Although they have momentum on their side, England will be consider slight favorites with Rory Burns and James Anderson's injuries hurting them. With an unassailable lead up for the taking, South Africa will hope for their stars to turn up and deal the killer blow at St. George's Park. Here are a few tips to help you pick your Dream11 team for SA vs ENG.
Squads to choose from:
South Africa:
Faf du Plessis (C), Dean Elgar, Pieter Malan, Zubayr Hamza, Rassie van der Dussen, Quinton de Kock, Andile Phehlukwayo, Vernon Philander, Dwaine Pretorius, Beuran Hendricks, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Dane Paterson, Kagiso Rabada, Keegan Petersen
England:
Joe Root (C), Zak Crawley, Dominic Sibley, Joe Denly, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, Matthew Parkinson, Craig Overton, Dom Bess, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Rory Burns, Ollie Pope, Mark Wood and Jack Leach.
Playing XI Updates
South Africa:
No changes are expect from the South African camp in spite of a disappointing loss in their previous game. Their openers, Elgar and Malan showed a lot of grit and determination in Cape Town which bodes well for them although the form of Zubayr Hamza and Faf du Plessis is a cause for concern. However, Quinton de Kock has starred with the bat with two fifties in the series and has been ably complemented by Rassie van der Dussen as well. Their bowling attack has a lot of experience with Vernon Philander sharing the new ball with Kagiso Rabada. Anrich Nortje has been very impressive in this series and will be one to watch out for in this Test.
Possible XI: Malan, Elgar, Hamza, du Plessis(C), van der Dussen, de Kock (WK), Pretorius, Philander, Rabada, Maharaj and Nortje.
England:
England has had a torrid time in this tour with several players being diagnose with illness. Although Joe Root is said to be dealing with an illness concern, he should be fit enough for this game. While the batting unit should remain unchanged, Jofra Archer is set to come into the side after missing the previous game.
With James Anderson's injury vacating a spot, Jofra Archer should return to use the new ball alongside Stuart Broad. Sam Curran and Ben Stokes have done well with the ball with Dom Bess holding up one end nicely. Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler are also in decent knick while Dominic Sibley's maiden hundred should give him a lot of confidence heading into this game. With a well-rounded team in their midst, England will surely fancy their chances of a series-defining win.
Possible XI: Sibley, Crawley, Denly, Root(C), Stokes, Buttler (WK), Pope, Curran, Broad, Archer and Bess.

Should Sam Curran take the new ball?

Should Sam Curran take the new ball?

Injury and illness have continued to plague England to lead up to the third Test. In the fast bowling department, James Anderson has flown back home and Jofra Archer has failed to fully recover.
The key question now is whether Sam Curran can share the new ball with Stuart Broad in Port Elizabeth?

On the latest Wisden Cricket Weekly podcast, Wisden Cricket Monthly editor-in-chief Phil Walker, WCM magazine editor Jo Harman and host Ben Gardner discussed the subject and pondered over James Anderson’s future. Here are the excerpts.

JO HARMAN:
I am. I think he’s bowled really well on this tour. In theory, he should be most effective when the ball is at its newest and going to swing. I’d go with Broad and Curran with Wood as first change, I think.
PHIL WALKER:
I’m comfortable with that too. I think Jo’s rationale as ever is bang on. He’s a conventional swing bowler. I think PE, historically, has shown that the ball does a bit.
The muggy conditions will certainly help his style. And it’s good to see with Curran that there’s no real debate around his credentials. He’s not damned with faint praise anymore.
There are no more backhanded compliments with Sam Curran. He’s just a class cricketer. He does it time after time and he’s now become a mainstay of this bowling attack and all the more so with Anderson going home.

JO HARMAN:
There’s a similarity here with Steyn who for a long time went almost completely injury-free. Anderson had his early career injuries, but for a long time, he was almost injury-free.
Same with Steyn, when he had his first quite serious injury, whenever he came back, there was always something else he picked up. And I’ve heard Anderson speak about this in the past that it’s when you’re not bowling that you’re most likely to pick up injuries.
When you come back and that seems to be the case with Anderson; every time he comes back, something else comes along. There’s another different niggle.
PHIL WALKER:
I like the way that he’s positioning himself and his particular story. He is saying ‘I want to redefine what a fast bowler in Test cricket is capable of doing physically’ and he’s making long-term goals as realistic as possible and bringing them into the conversation.

He wants to be bowling in the Ashes in two years’ time. So it’s not ‘I just want to get through to next Thursday and play another Test or get through that series. I want to play in two years’ time.’ It’s laudable, it’s admirable, it’s also mildly terrifying for mortals to be observing all of this.

Ben Stokes’ World Cup and Ashes heroics bring cricketer of the year award:

Joe Root has praised the mental fortitude of Ben Stokes after the all-rounder was name the International Cricket Council’s player of the year for 2019.
Stokes became only the second England player to win the award – the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy – outright after Jonathan Trott in 2011. Andrew Flintoff shared it with South Africa’s Jacques Kallis in 2005.

“I think it’s hard to say any more superlatives,” Root said. “The way he’s performed all year, in all formats, it’s just been fantastic to be part of the same team. In my opinion, he’s the leading player in the world at the moment.”

The England captain pointed to the improvement in Stokes’s attitude since his involvement in the Bristol street brawl of September 2017, an incident that led him to miss the 2017-18 Ashes tour of Australia and forced him to successfully de fend a charge of affray in court the following summer.
“I think more than anything it’s his mental approach to the game,” Root said. “I think after he had a time out of the team he’s grown and grown as a senior player, as a mentor to the young guys.

“That’s testament to his character and how much he cares about playing for England and how much he cares about the group. And his desire to want to get better all the time.”
Faf du Plessis was also full of praise for Stokes, who inspired England’s series-leveling victory in Cape Town last week.

“His being named the player of the year was very well deserved,” the South Africa captain said. “He played the big moments well and I think that’s when you want to judge cricketers – when it matters.
“That’s why he’s won so many games for England. Even in this series, he has played such a big role. For us, he is a guy we need to try to keep quiet because he’s the sort of player who takes games away from you.”

Stokes’ wicket is top priority for SA on the second day

Stokes’ wicket is top priority for SA on the second day

Claiming Ben Stokes’ wicket will be top of the list of priorities for South Africa as they look to make an impact on day two of the third Test against England at St George’s Park on Friday.
It was a slow day of Test cricket for most of the opening day as England battled their way to 224 for the loss of four wickets.
That effort‚ at a run-rate of 2.5 per over‚ came on a surface where runs proved a scarce commodity.
England cricket team is intended to tour South Africa from December 2019 to February 2020 to play 4 test matches, 3 one day games and 3 matches of Twenty20 International. The predicted Easterly breeze‚ the one that locals will tell you brings the wickets‚ failed to pitch on Thursday and that made it hard for both batsman and bowlers to garner success.

Stokes scores on first day:
Stokes (38) and Ollie Pope (39) survived the new ball to end as the not out batsmen overnight.
Faf du Plessis’ South Africans will know that nipping out Stokes as early as possible will be of key importance lest they run the risk of him taking head coach Mark Boucher’s “wounded buffalo” by the horns.

That lack of wicket-taking opportunities during the opening session required some innovation and Plessis came up with a plan.
The first two wickets fell to an unconventional field placing. Short backward square-leg‚ or leg gully if you will‚ is not a position every captain looks to employ.
But Du Plessis identified an opportunity and his quicks Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje targeted back-of-length in the direction of the thigh pad and it worked on both occasions.
After lunch Stats:
First‚ and just after lunch‚, Dom Sibley turned a delivery from Rabada to Dean Elgar‚ who snaffled a good catch. Sibley made 36 and contributed to a 70-run stand for the first wicket with Zak Crawley.
Next man down Crawley was a near carbon copy dismissal to Sibley’s but this time it was off Nortje with Rassie van der Dussen‚ in almost the same position‚ taking a blinding catch diving low to his right.
Crawley was skillful for his 44 that came off 137 deliveries and included nine fours.
England took the tea break on 117 for two off 58 overs with Joe Denly and Joe Root looking to continue the patience game.

However, it was the case of them both getting in and then getting out.
South Africa Bowling:
Denly’s (25)‚ was a strange dismissal in that only wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock appealed for leg-before decision off Keshav Maharaj.
The appeal was turned down but De Kock convinced his skipper to review. Television revealed the ball had kissed the pad before hitting the middle of Denly’s bat and the decision was overturned.
He ended the day with figures of one for 55 in 32 overs and is likely to bowl considerably more on Friday.

Proteas plans, hard work paid off in the 3rd test

Proteas plans, hard work paid off in the 3rd test

The dismissals of Dom Sibley and Joe Root, among others, were just rewarded for the South African bowlers sticking to their plans on a day when they were made to toil.
The St George’s Park pitch proved to be a batsman’s paradise on Thursday but it took a 76 run partnership between the in-form Ben Stokes and impressive Ollie Pope to help put England slightly ahead.
While many commented on the lack of assistance provided to the bowlers, the Proteas went about their business with strict discipline and were aided by the excellent work of Keshav Maharaj.

Bowler’s Strike back:
England’s start they were 61-0 at lunch left South African trailing early but then the plan came together Kagiso Rabada got Zak Crawley caught by Dean Elgar down the leg side and fellow opener Dom Sibley went after flicking an Anrich Nortje delivery to leg gully which Rassie van der Dussen juggled at first before holding on. Both wickets were the culmination of the pre-game plan.
‘We spoke long and hard about Sibley after Cape Town because he did play those leg-side shots in the air a lot, so it was a conscious plan we had for him,’ said Proteas bowling coach Charl Langeveldt.
‘In Cape Town, he worked us out; he walked into the bowler’s line and made life difficult for us, but today worked for us.’

Langeveldt also revealed how they plan to get rid of Root was by bowling straight.
‘I suggested he go full to Joe Root and try to get him lbw or bowled and he did so, fair play to him, he celebrated,’ Langeveldt said.

Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope looks to build on solid England start

Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope looks to build on solid England start

England will look to capitalize on good work from Ben Stokes and Ollie Pope when play resumes on day two of the third Test against South Africa.
Stokes and Pope combined in an unbroken stand of 76 in the evening session, guiding the tourists away from a potentially tricky position to a promising stumps score of 224 for four on day one.
Stokes' ability to take command of a match, with bat or ball, needs no re-stating and Ollie Pope looked in wonderful touch as he cashed in against a tiring attack. Together they will look to push England towards 400, leaving their bowlers the safety net they might need on a sluggish pitch in Port Elizabeth.

Stokes and Ollie before Stumps:
Ben Stokes and Ollie Pope's unbeaten 76-run partnership helps England finish day one of the third Test on 224/4.
What they said;
"If we can get into the late 300s that's a very good score on this pitch. It's only going to get worse from here."

England opener Zak Crawley;
"It was hard work but we stuck to our game plan of keeping the scoring at under 2.5 for a long period. We achieved what we wanted."

Great Britain lost four match points in the doubles. "You have this fresh cohort knocking on the door and Tsitsipas has made a big step by winning the ATP Finals, Alexander Zverev has been close before, while Dominic Thiem has played very well this year", he added.
Zverev is competing at the ATP Cup this week but has been in poor form losing all of his singles matches against Alex De Minaur, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Denis Shapovalov.
The world No 7 has blown hot and cold for many years but he knows he has to find some consistency - and quickly.
“Other people my age would be finishing college and trying to find a job,” he explained. “In my mind, I’m not that young anymore, and I need to start improving.”

Roger Federer Stats
These first three, in my opinion, are the favorites for all the tournaments of next year (2020) ", concluded Henman. The former world number 4 can boast of having beaten Roger Federer six times, '' defeated the Swiss in their first four games and lead their head-to-head by 6-1, before losing their last six consecutive games.
However, Henman, who reached six Grand Slam semi-finals, never failed Rafael Nadal (0-2) or Novak Djokovic (0-1). This, although their meetings took place in 2006, the penultimate year of Briton's career.

Jannik Sinner: 'I had great practice match with Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer'

Jannik Sinner: 'I had great practice match with Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer'

In 11 months, Jannik Sinner has passed a long way from outside the top-500 into the top-80, establishing himself as one of the youngsters to beat on the Tour at the age of 18. Super talented Italian became the youngest player since Richard Gasquet with three Challenger titles last year, reaching his first ATP semi-final and lifting the Next Gen trophy in Milan in November.

The first two Next Gen champions Hyeon Chung and Stefanos Tsitsipas would reach the semi-final of the Australian Open next January but Sinner doesn't have such expectations, reminding he is younger than both and that he still needs a couple of years to reach that level.

Match with Federer and Nadal
After two early losses at the beginning of the season, Jannik came to Melbourne where he had a chance to work with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev and other players from the top, shaping up his game ahead of the first-round clash with a qualifier Max Purcell on Tuesday.

After a breakthrough season, Jannik is aware of how tough it is going to be to repeat and improve that in 2020, although he seems ready to give his best in every match and learn from every defeat enroot to the place in the top-20, possessing incredible ball-striking abilities and the spirit of a true champion.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Hyeon Chung have done a great job here, especially the beginning of the season. It can give you a little bit of confidence, winning this tournament or playing better at the end of the season.
Seniority of Federer and Nadal
Sinner said. "I don't know if this year is going to be the momentum or maybe two or three years after, as I think I still need more time; after two weeks in Melbourne, we will know everything.
My season did not start, as I wanted; I have not been able to play as many matches as I wished to before Melbourne and that makes things difficult. Still, I think we practiced well, with strong offseason; I feel great on the court, better and better with each day.

Of course, it is a little bit different when you play matches but I think I can reach the desired form; I had practice runs with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Alexander Zverev. This year is not going to be so easy for me.
I think the focus is always on trying to give your best on the court, on improving your game day after day; that's our main goal."

'Old school work ethic' pays off for immaculate Federer

'Old school work ethic' pays off for immaculate Federer
Roger Federer has never lost in the first round at the Australian Open since his debut 20 years ago, and the Swiss great kept his incredible record intact Monday, attributing "old school work ethic" for his Melbourne Park success.
The 38-year-old swatted aside Steve Johnson 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 to race into the second round, kick starting his bid for a 21st Grand Slam title in immaculate style.
Federer said ahead of the tournament that he had low expectations at the year's opening Grand Slam after missing the warm-up ATP Cup to spend more time with his family. It left him short of match practice, but it didn't show on Rod Laver Arena against the American.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal intended to play a match in Cape Town, South Africa on 07 February 2020 for a Social cause. Tennis fans can get Federer Vs Nadal Cape Town Tickets from our trusted and reliable online ticketing market place.
Roger Federer:
"I think for me really the first three rounds are key to get going, to get used to the pressure, stay calm, when to save breakpoint or 30-all points or whatever it may be," he said.
"This is sort of the unknown that can be a little bit scary at times.
"But today there was none of that because I broke early each set and was able to get on a roll, play freely after that."

The crowd favorite knew he needed to get out of the blocks fast against the world number 75 and that's what he did, racing to a 4-1 lead in the opening set before a 10-minute interruption for the roof to be shut due to rain.
Federer returned and wrapped up the set in just 27 minutes.
Johnson, known for his big forehand and slice backhand, again gave away service breaks early in the next two sets and there was no way back against a man who delivered some jaw-dropping returns and forehands.
He will next play either French qualifier Quentin Halys or Serbian Filip Krajinovic, admitting "I have to be careful".
"Round-by-round, point-for-point mentality. I know other guys that are playing extremely well right now so I think it's just important to stay very calm about things."
Learning from mistakes:
Seeded three, Federer is gunning for not only a 21st Slam title but his seventh in Australia, having most recently tasted success at Melbourne Park in 2018.
His earliest exit in Australia since 2000 has been the third round, and the Swiss star said hard work was key to his longevity.

"At the end of the day, old-school work ethic, there is nothing wrong with that," he said.
"I do believe if you're in a slump, not feeling well, whatever it may be, knowing how to train hard, when to train hard, with whom to train hard, there is nothing wrong when it goes to those things.
"And learning from your mistakes is key, as we remember our losses more than our wins. It's just important that when you do lose, you know, you really make the most of it, because it's actually an opportunity."
Despite his age, Federer remains a competitive force and won four singles titles last year.
But he failed to add another Grand Slam with his closest call coming in the Wimbledon final, where he lost a five-set epic to Novak Djokovic.
In contrast to his 2019 Major drought, Djokovic and Rafael Nadal won two apiece, with the Spaniard moving within one Slam title of Federer's record 20.

Roger Federer hoping to avoid schedule 'problem' after breezing to Australian Open win

Roger Federer hoping to avoid schedule 'problem' after breezing to Australian Open win

Roger Federer believes early Grand Slam exits are easier to deal with earlier in the season.
Roger Federer says he has no issues if he suffers an early exit at the Australian Open - but a problem could arise later in the season. The Swiss star has continuously played down his hopes of winning the first Grand Slam of the season.
But Federer showed he is a force to be reckoned with by comfortably beating Steve Johnson 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 this morning.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal intended to play a match in Cape Town, South Africa on 07 February 2020 for a Social cause. Tennis fans can get Roger Federer Vs Rafael Nadal Tickets from our trusted and reliable online ticketing market place.
The world No 3 eased himself back into action without getting out of second gear in his first competitive match in two months.

However, such a dominant performance has not raised Federer's hopes of clinching a 21st Grand Slam title of his career.
And the 38-year-old would not be concerned by suffered a shock defeat but he feels that could become a big issue if it happened later in the year.
Federer’s Interview:
"When you win it's all good, you know," Federer said.
"Or even when you make a semis and beyond, you know you're in good shape, plus you're just coming off the off-season so you have the confidence.
"You have practice, you know, flowing through your body, too.
"The problem is sometimes when you play too many matches and you don't have that practice block, in a way you're just playing to win, just trying to weasel your way to the next victory and you forget how to properly play tennis.
"So I think the Australian Open, it's nice if you play well, but there is no drama as if it doesn't go well for the rest of the season, in my opinion.
"It's worse if later in the season success is not there and you're missing that block of practice and you can't rely on it anymore because it's too far back.

"That's why I like to have sort of longer extended practice sessions, probably twice a year, because I think that helps my game."
Federer has not lost a first-round match since he becomes a Grand Slam champion in 2003. And he feels changes to the seeding formula have helped him maintain the impressive run.
"I guess there is a few reasons that you know, some were close, let's be honest. There are a few that pop up in my mind right away," he explained.
Better Player:
"I think also I became a better player. 32 seeds helped, you know, to keep more of those better-ranked players away, as when I came up on tour there was only 16 seeds and all that.
"Yeah, then I guess I created a game which allowed me to manage maybe all kinds of opponents, you know, that were ranked outside of the top 30 in a first round like that even if there is rust or there is nerves and so forth.

"Look, I'm happy that I was able to manage those first rounds.
"As we know, they can always be very tricky. That's why Masters 1000 are tough sometimes.
"You can play a top-20 player in the first round and that's when it gets tough."

Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic’s rivalry defined the decade and it has been a joy to watch

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have been the two excellent players of the 2010s and look unstoppable as we approach 2020.
It is a credit to their astounding longevity that Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer started the decade as the top three and they will end it in the same position. In some sports, constant dominance from one team or individual can become boring and cause fans to lose interest.

Big Three
However, that cannot be said of tennis, especially with the power the Big Three have held in the men’s game.

Federer started the decade on top but unsurprisingly at the age of 38 has dropped to third by the end of 2019.
As Federer’s form has fluctuated through the years, Nadal and Djokovic have been models of consistency with only injuries slowing them down.
They have taken tennis to a completely different level, with their exploits defying belief at times.
In 2010, Nadal won three consecutive majors to surpass Federer as the best player in the world and complete the Golden Slam by capturing a maiden US Open.
Moreover, although doubters have questioned his hard court credentials over the years, he has gone on to win three more titles in New York.
However, what sets Nadal apart is his performances on clay, where he owns an astonishing 92 percent win-loss record.
Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic
The challenge of beating Nadal on clay is the most difficult in all of the sports with ’The King of Clay’ boasting 12 titles at the French Open, 11 in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona and nine trophies in Rome.

He also became the first male player to win the French Open and the US Open in the same year on four occasions (2010, 2013, 2017, and 2019).
Moreover, he ends this decade with 19 Grand Slams to his name, over $119million in prize money and back on top of the world rankings for the fifth time in his career.
