If you are new to boating or just haven’t taken your boat out of its boat cover in a few seasons, listen up. There are a few items that you should always carry on your boat to ensure the safety of its passengers.
Plan ahead so that before you even remove the boat cover you have counted how many people you plan to take out on the water and you have a flotation device for each person. Make sure that each person’s life jacket fits them correctly. Children need child-sized lifejackets to do them any good.
Boating can be very dangerous, especially when you factor in water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing and other water sports. In case of emergency, having a first aid kid onboard is always a good idea. No matter what the injury, a first aid kid should cover nearly all your bases.
When all the boaters are tan and tired and you’re ready to put the boat cover back on and call it a day, a boat anchor can help you dock and unload supplies. Boat anchors are also extremely helpful when you want to go to the beach and especially in an emergency situation.
When the engine of your boat fails in the middle of the lake, the last thing you want is to be without the proper equipment. If your boat breaks down or you see someone else who needs a tow, tow ropes will get you safely to shore.
You must keep a fire extinguisher with you while you’re out on the water. As soon as the boat cover comes off, you should check to be sure your fire extinguisher is onboard. Fires can break out anywhere and, when you’re stranded, having an extinguisher can save lives.
