Thailand is a popular tourist destination well known for its pristine beaches, and numerous tourist activities. If you’re travelling solo this summer vacation to Koh Samui, then here’s a list of things to keep in mind.

1

Renting your ride

First, you need to arrange transport to explore Koh Samui. How are you going to do it? You can easily rent a car and prices start at THB 500 a day. There are plenty of parking spots available at most tourist locations. You can choose taxis too. But, unfortunately, they are not metred, and they can easily overcharge you. Another popular mode of travel here is renting bikes. This is more convenient and the cheapest transport to get around.

2

Places to Stay

There are two main places to choose from, Chaweng and Choeng Mon. Chaweng is a lively place that is crowded with many shops, bars, restaurants and foreigners. You can choose the southern Chaweng to stay in if you want easy access to the beach. Besides, there are resorts like Avani+ Samui Resort, that provide free shuttle services daily to Chaweng. So, getting to the happening part of town would be of no issue. If you are looking for an intimate and laid-back place, then the Choeng Mon is the one for you. Having said that, there are not many bars and restaurants here. You can also choose Koh Samui resorts in Bophut if you’re looking for more sophisticated entertainment places and shopping.

3

Beach times

Koh Samui is well known for its stunning sun-kissed beaches. Lamai and Chaweng are popular for its beach parties too. One of the best beaches out here is the Crytal beach boasting of cool waters and stunning scenery. The crowds here are mostly from the resorts around and are not rowdy. Make sure to stay clear of the beaches in the night to avoid troublemakers and drunks.

4

Convenience stores

There are convenience stores that operate 24/7 making it all the more convenient for you. There’s one pretty much everywhere and they are fully stocked with all essentials, including food. Head to these stores, and stock up on scrubs, face masks and bath salts. They are cheap and are great for gifts to take back home.

5

Emergencies

If you find yourself getting ill, then you must know that the island provides very good health services. The Samui International Hospital located in Chaweng is the place you need to head to, in case of medical emergencies. If you want a cheaper alternative, you can check out the public hospital located in Nathon. Having said that, the latter is better for minor cuts and injuries.

6

Money

Next on the list, is money. You can't get around Koh Samui, without some money in hand. There are FOREX booths and ATMs located all over the island. The booths usually close by 22:00. The ATMs will only provide you with baht, and you can go up to THB 20,000 only, per withdrawal. You will also be charged with a THB180 too.
