Kuaiji Mountain Scenic Area and Yu the Great Mausoleum

Travel six kilometres towards the southeast from the city centre, to reach the Kuaiji Mountain Scenic Area. This is the place where the Yu the Great Mausoleum is situated. This is one of the revered kings in Chinese history, who developed projects to control floods. The mausoleum is surrounded by rolling hills and crystal-clear waters providing picturesque views. Keyan Scenic Resort

Orchid Pavilion is only thirteen kilometres away from the city centre. During the year 353, a renowned calligrapher of the time called Wang Xizhi first wrote a piece called the "Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Collection” here. This brought considerable fame to the Pavilion and now is considered the holy land of the calligraphers. Today, there is another reason why tourist flock the region. The place surrounded is by artistic garden landscapes and incredible natural sceneries. And as a result, it has made into everyone’s itineraries.

East Lake Scenic Area

The list is endless when you take the number of scenic spots to explore in Shaoxing. This particular scenic spot is located in the ancient city. This one is an artistic combination of grottoes, cliffs, lakes and stone bridges. It is a well-known landscape garden. The place is also famous for the three lakes in the Zhejiang Province. Big Buddha Temple of Xinchang

This might be a little out of the way, but well worth your time if you decide to visit. This is, in fact, one of the most popular tourist spots for those who are visiting this province. A temple visit is a must when in China, and the Big Buddha Temple of Xinchang is the one to check out. The 1600 years old Buddha statue here, is about 15 meters in height. The enigmatic curved smile on his face is hard to miss. To add to this, the temple is surrounded by 25 sqkm of natural forests, ponds, streams, hills and scenic spots. There are good hiking trails to explore too!

Lu Xun

Many places in Shaoxing boast of the country’s rich history and culture. Famous scholars and figures of the past were either born here or settled here. Therefore, their residences still remain as places of interest. One such place is Lu Xun, one of the famous authors who lived from 1881 to 1936. A visit to the house will introduce you to his daily life and his workplace. These were places he mentioned in his novels too.
