7 ways to chill in Mirissa – Relax to the maximum in Mirissa

Mirissa is a town located in the far south of Sri Lanka. The town gets popular from December to March for the surfing season but Mirissa has much to offer for those who are calm and quiet travellers.

1

Get a massage

This is a blissful treat as you get to relax and wind-down while the soreness of your muscles is cured and released. There are trained staff who are able to offer different types of massages varying from traditional massages to Ayurveda massages.

2

Snorkelling with Turtles

If you love snorkelling you are bound to love this experience where you get to snorkel with the turtles. The turtles have got used to having humans around them so they do not rush away in fear however, it is important to be respectful to the animals and cause no harm or damage to the animals or the environment.

3

Have a homemade ice cream

Sri Lanka is a tropical island, so the weather is warm and it is sunny throughout most times of the year. Mirissa is a city that is warm and crisp during most months and there isn’t much that can top off the experience of having a chilled drink or an ice cream in the hot sun. To make things even better there is a location that sells home-made ice cream which is a delightful treat on a hot day in the sun.

4

Attend Yoga sessions

Yoga is one activity that is bound to make you feel calm and relaxed once the session is over. When you attend yoga classes from different instructors you are able to experience the approach to yoga in different ways. You also get to meet like-minded people, which is an added advantage. Ubuntu Beach Villas host yoga sessions thrice a week for their guests.

5

Evenings by the beach

If you go to Mirissa and fail to spend time by the beach you can consider that you haven’t enjoyed Mirissa to its full potential. To be able to be on a towel, enjoying the warm breeze on your skin while enjoying a chilled Thambili drink is every tropical country lover’s dream come true. Most Sri Lanka beach villas have access to the beach which makes going to the beach inevitable.

6

Play a game of Carrom

Carrom is a game that can be seen commonly in the village tea shops in Sri Lanka. Mirrissa has many of these shops and you can always see someone or the other involved in a serious game of carrom. The board is a square and similar to pool tables there are netted pockets in the four corners. With one single disk, you have to attempt to put all the pieces, down the holes.

7

Eat roti to your heart’s content.

Roti with Katta sambal is one of the most rewarding foods you can try when you are in Mirissa. Even though most of the locals say the food is quite spicy you might feel it is not while you eat it but, the after taste can be quite spicy. You can combine roti with a plain tea to experience it how the locals do it.
