The Great Hanging link to the movie. I have not seen the movie in its entirety but should be a good source to get a broad picture of events. I am currently trying to contact the director of the film to see if I can watch a copy. I researched and I am having a hard time locating it online.

Before lethal injections and electric chairs, the preferred method of death-penalty execution in Texas was hanging, conducted by local sheriffs at their county jails, not at prison facilities. This is an interesting article and I will be searching for this book referenced in the online article.
