Things to do in the Sri Lanka Hill Country - Explore the hill capital of the island

Sri Lanka is a beautiful tropical island with a variety of things to do spread across the island. The hill country of Sri Lanka has its own attractions that keep everyone coming back to it.

1

Adam's peak

Adam's peak which is also known as Sri Padaya is a historically and culturally important location for most Sri Lankans. Adam's Pak is also religiously important to four different religious groups in Sri Lanka. While some people climb the tedious trail to witness the stunning sunrise that is known to be a once in a lifetime experience, others climb Adam's Peak for the devotion they have for the religion. The best time to attempt the hike is from end-August to mid-March. The sky is not cloudy, and the weather is favourable allowing the hikers to be able to witness the stunning sunrise along with the view of the landscape.

Horton Plains National Park

The weather is absolutely delightful in the hill country of Sri Lanka. It is not too warm where you cannot be outdoors, and it is not too cold where you have to cover yourself up in layers of clothing. The Horton Plains National park is a nature lover's paradise as it is secluded and peaceful. The area which is covered in grassy plains has many small forests scattered around the area. The most exciting attraction at the national park is the trek to 'World's End'. Getting about Sri Lanka is a tedious task due to the situation of roads. To cover a few kilometres, it takes hours and hours due to the condition of the roads. The most convenient way to travel is getting an air taxi. Sri Lanka is not a big island which allows you to enjoy the time spent on the island while saving the stress of travelling.

For those who love golf, the Nuwara Eliya Golf club is the perfect location. If you wish to experience a fine day out golfing Cinnamon Air could take you up to the hill country where you could spend a day out in the sun and then return to your itinerary somewhere else in the island. The golf club in Nuwara Eliya is known to be one of the best golf clubs in Sri Lanka as it is well maintained. Apart from the golfers, many other visitors also walk into the gold club in order to enjoy the spectacular views and delightful food. The Nuwara Eliya golf club which is now a commercial property was built in the year 1889 by a Scottish Soldier.

Take a tour at a Tea Estate

The tea estates in Sri Lanka produce some of the best tea that the world has tasted. Not only the end product but the tea estates are also a delightful treat for the eyes. The evenly pruned tree bushes and the various colours of greenery is a welcoming scene for anyone who lives in a concrete jungle. There are many tea factories located in the hill country and some of them offer tours of the tea factories. The guided tour will explain the process in detail and most likely top things off with a warm cup of tea.
