Galle

Considered a 'must-do' when touring or holidaying within the Emerald Isle, the city of Galle which is the most popular destination in the southern province allows for a truly unforgettable excursion. Whether you want to saunter through local markets, cycle along narrow streets or stop by the historic Dutch Fort or Christian Reformed Church; the latter being one of the oldest of its kind in the country, one's thirst for exploring will surely be quenched come the end of one's time here. In fact, the ramparts of the old fort are great ways to capture stunning views of the Indian Ocean and uncover a part of the country's history which continues to be well received and appreciated.

Koggala Turtle Hatchery

Found approximately 140 km from Colombo is the town of Koggala and the curious of heart will soon discover that the place is famous for a sea turtle hatchery and farm that must be visited. Established in the hope of curbing the growing threat against various species of sea turtles that are known to nest in and around these shores, the hatchery paves the way for visitors to learn of what goes on in terms of caring for these animals before it is time for its release. A good time to visit will be during the evening when hatchlings are let loose into the ocean and scenes of scrambling sea turtles are sure to live long in one's memory. For those longing for beautiful sunsets and conditions that are well suited for diving and snorkelling, then Tangalle Beach which is some 160 km south of Colombo must not be forgotten. Though, the waves in this area can be relatively rough which would be a turn off for swimmers, the diving sites in and around the beach more than make up for it.
