Only in America do people drive up to McDonalds in their Ford Focus, order a double cheeseburger, large fry, large shake and a diet coke. As if drinking a diet coke is going to counteract the fact that they just consumed a massive amount of calories.
Only in America does a Utah polygamist family gain enough media attention to have their own reality TV show called, “Sister Wives.” Because watching a husband and his ten wives isn’t creepy, it’s fascinating. Apparently polygamy is only illegal if it’s in Texas.
Only in American will artists forget the lyrics to the countries national anthem. No Christina Aguilera, the words do not say, “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming.” The lyrics actually say, “O’er the ramparts we watched, we’re so gallantly streaming.”
Only in America does a ten-year-old have to diet. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity affects 17 percent of children and adolescents in the United States. This rate is triple what it was a generation ago.
Gyms aren’t meant for the active, but if you accidentally put in a little effort and broke a sweat have no fear. Many American gyms have escalators located right outside the gym doors. This way you won’t have to take any inclined steps until you make it back to your Ford F150.
Only in America will more people watch the Super Bowl than vote for the presidential elections. Whether it’s the Ford F150 and Budweiser commercials, or the game itself, the New York Times reported that in 2009 more Americans watched the Super Bowl than voted in the 2004 presidential election.
