Drive Shaft Replacement, Repair, Service | Many Autos LTD

The function of the drive shaft is to transfer the engine torque from a gearbox or differential to the wheels. It must also compensate for all variations in angle or length resulting from manoeuvring and deflection for perfect synchronisation between joints.
Drive shafts for cars with front wheel drive consist of the outboard fixed joint, the inboard constant velocity joint and the connecting shaft. They also include elements such as the anti-lock system ring and the torsion damper. The basic design of the outboard fixed ball joint, the constant velocity joint, dates from the 1930s.
In most cases the inboard CVJ takes the form of a slip joint to allow the drive shaft to follow the movements of the wheel suspension. At the front axle (leading axle) the outboard joint must transfer the torque effectively through a large angle (up to 52 degrees). At the rear axle the angles of the outboard joints are considerably smaller.
Constant velocity drive shafts are exposed to maximum stress all the time that the vehicle is in operation. Alongside the extremely significant displacement angles and translational movement, the joints and bellows must be able to withstand temperatures of between minus 40 and plus 120 °C as well as speeds of up to 2800 rpm. In order to transmit the required torque in all engine speed and velocity ranges with reliable constancy (ideally throughout the entire service life of the vehicle), all components must be maintenance-free.

Wheel Alignment And Tracking | Many Autos LTD

Wheel alignment, or tracking, is the process of ensuring your vehicle’s wheels are set to the optimum position, as per the car manufacturer’s specifications. Incorrect alignment can result in rapid and irregular tyre wear and can even affect the handling and safety of the vehicle. Wheel alignment problems can be caused by hitting a kerb, driving into a pothole in the road or by excessive wear to steering or suspension components. It is important to get your wheel alignment checked regularly to ensure you get the most out of your tyres.

Wheel Cylinder | Many Autos LTD

Over time, the force applied to wheel cylinders causes them to leak or wear away, which can reduce the reliability and response time of your brakes. As an integral part of the drum brake system, wheel cylinders are most commonly situated directly above each wheel, perpendicular to the direction the wheel travels. Consisting of a small Wheel cylinder with a piston on each end, wheel cylinders are at opposite end of the brake line to the brake pedal, so when the pedal is pressed the brake fluid is forced into the cylinders which pushes the pistons out. In turn, the pistons push the brake shoes into contact with the wheel drums, slowing the vehicle through the friction this generates.

Vacuum Pump | Many Autos LTD

While vacuum pumps are essential to the workings of diesel and hybrid engines, they can also boost performance in petrol engines. Installing the right vacuum pump with a product from our range can significantly improve your car’s response and efficiency. Vacuum pumps draw out the gas molecules from a sealed chamber to create a vacuum. The pressure of the vacuum is then used to power a wide variety of systems and devices depending on the make and model of your vehicle. In diesel and hybrid engines, the vacuum pump is solely responsible for supplying a vital vacuum to the brake servo – a feature that isn't needed in petrol engines

Thermostat Replacement, Repair, Service | Many Autos LTD

The thermostat starts at a closed position when you start the engine to help it reach operating temperature. As coolant temperature rises, thermostat begins to open. The opening allows hot coolant in the engine to flow into the radiator, while the water pump pushes lower-temperature coolant from the radiator into the engine. When the lower-temperature coolant reaches the thermostat container, the expanding fluid begins to contract, closing the thermostat's valve.
During engine operation, though, the thermostat actually never fully closes or opens, but gradually nears either state to control coolant flow, depending on engine operating conditions. This allow the engine to operate at the best temperature. This ideal engine-operating temperature accomplishes several goals: It helps engine oil to lubricate efficiently and to remove harmful deposits. It reduces emissions and gas consumption and contributes to engine performance. Thus, the thermostat has an impact on your engine's health and longevity.

Water pump replacement, Repair, Service | Many Autos LTD

When you are travelling on the road, your engine reaches very high temperatures. Water pumps work by pumping water through the engine from the radiator, which is then recycled back through the coolant system. A water pump gasket works as a seal between the engine and the water pump to prevent leaking and is fundamental to the cooling process. If your engine begins to leak coolant, it is vital that you get your gasket replaced promptly to prevent further damage to your engine. A visible sign of a coolant leak is a pool of water under your vehicle. Additionally, corrosion and wear with age and use can cause a gasket to fail, which can cause overheating and water leakage into the oil compartment.

One of the more common questions that we get asked in our centres is if wheel balancing and wheel alignment are two terms used to describe the same thing. After all, they sound very similar and both aid the long-term health of your tyre. Balancing and alignment are in fact two very different practices and whereas balancing addresses the distribution of weight around the wheel, alignment looks at the position of the wheels in relation to the road and each other. It’s easy to confuse the two, so here’s a closer look at each one and the benefits this can bring to you and your car Wheel balancing ensures that weight is distributed equally around the wheel and that the tyre rotates evenly. This involves adding small balancing weights to the rim which counter weight inconsistencies. If you imagine a set of balancing scales, when you add a heavy weight to one side the scales will tip. If you then add a number of smaller, less heavy items to the other side, the scales will gradually begin to tilt the more you add until finally, when you have added enough smaller weights, the scales will once again level out. Add too many weights and the scales will tip the other way. Although this is a simpler example, wheel balancing works in the same way and if an imbalance towards one side of the wheel is identified, wheel weights are added to the opposite side to even out the distribution of weight. It’s important to address wheels that are not correctly balanced to ensure you receive the best ride comfort. Incorrectly balanced wheels produce a vibration that is felt through the steering wheel when travelling above a certain speed that can cause considerable discomfort over time. What’s more, balance issues can cause premature wearing of your tyres, suspension and steering components.

Rear Axle | Many Autos LTD

In rear-wheel drive cars and trucks, the engine turns a driveshaft (also called a propeller shaft or tail shaft) which transmits rotational force to a drive axle at the rear of the vehicle. The drive axle may be a live axle, but modern rear wheel drive automobiles generally use a split axle with a differential.
How does a rear axle work?

is supplied from the engine via the transmission to a driveshaft which connects to the differential a pinion. gear is attached to the end of the driveshaft this turns the ring gear the ring gear surrounds. a set of differential gears that enable the two rear axles to turn at different speeds.

Radiator | Many Autos LTD

Car radiator stops the engine from getting too hot. If radiator starts leaking or is damaged, this could spell disaster for your vehicle. If this happens, replace your car radiator as soon as possible. The engine in your car generates a lot of heat. If it gets too hot, the pistons will generate too much friction, which in turn may seize your engine. To prevent this problem, you can use water and anti-freeze to absorb heat by passing through your engine.

Suspension Arm| Many Autos LTD

In automotive suspension, a control arm, also known as an A-arm, is a hinged suspension link between the chassis and the suspension upright or hub that carries the wheel. The inboard (chassis) end of a control arm is attached by a single pivot, usually a rubber bushing.
What is a suspension arm pin bush
suspension arm Bushings are cushions made of rubber, polyurethane (often shortened to "poly" or "urethane") or other materials. They're mounted on car suspension and steering joints to absorb road bumps, control the amount of movement in the joints and reduce noise and vibration.

Starter Motor Replacement, Repair, Service | Many Autos LTD

The starter motor is like the car’s heart it’s what gets the whole system going. Starter motor is used to start the engine, if a starter motor fails, the vehicle won't turn over or crank and will need replacing
The starter motor may need replacing if it’s not turning fast enough or if the part is seized. There are several reasons why the starter may not be working despite a good battery.

What does a Starter Motor do?

The starter motor is an electrical motor attached to the engine's flywheel that assists in starting the car engine. As you turn the key to start the car the starter motor is activated and will drive the flywheel to start the actual engine. Once the engine has started the starter motor will automatically switch off.

A head gasket is effectively a seal which is essential for maintaining the temperature and integrity of a car engine. It's a part responsible for sealing pressure within the engine as well as the distribution of oil and coolant. Every time you turn on your engine the head gasket must operate within very high temperatures and pressures, which is exactly what it is designed to do. The engine of your car needs to be cooled constantly as it relies on combustion for power and the head gasket is the core component in performing this job. If the head gasket is damaged, the engine will quickly overheat, and serious damage will be caused. Overheating in the engine of your car will lead to a loss of compression, the mixing of oil, water, coolant as well as a reduction in lubrication. The head gasket is a very complex piece of equipment and so a variety of materials are needed to build it. It must be able to withstand and function normally at extreme temperatures and pressure, it also needs to be resistant to all the chemicals and oils which rush around your car engine. As a result, each gasket from one car to the next is different as the demands of each engine are unique. Car manufacturers spend millions of pounds every year in the research and development of head gaskets to help manage the pressure and cooling of engines. Unfortunately, if you need a head gasket repairing, it will be on the more expensive side.

Handbrake Cable | Many Autos LTD

The handbrake cables link the handbrake lever to the parking brakes to stop the car from rolling downhill. Frayed or broken handbrake cables are dangerous and must be replaced. Different models of car use different handbrake systems, but by far the most common is a mechanical system of lever, rods and cables operated manually by the driver. A number of possible cable configurations can be used depending on what type of car you have (e.g. front- or rear-wheel drive), but a typical set-up consists of a primary cable attached to a yoke, and a secondary cable that wraps around this yolk and runs to each rear wheel

Glow Plug | Many Autos LTD

Glow plugs are standard fare in diesel engines and are designed to act like small electric heaters. They glow and emit heat in the combustion chamber, warming the engine block and helping the engine to start within a few seconds. Also known as diesel spark plugs, a glow plug takes the place of spark plugs which are only used in petrol engines. This is because diesel combusts in hot high-pressure air rather than under a spark. If you're after new glow plugs for your diesel vehicle, we've got everything you need. Speak to a member of our team who'll be able to point you in the right direction. Glow plugs look very similar to spark plugs, but a glow plug functions by adding additional energy to heat and start a diesel engine.
