05 Museums you must visit when in Macau

Macau is a beautiful region that has many different museums varying from history, culture, sports, arts, andspecialty and they are all so interesting.

Monte Forte

This museum is also known as the Fortaleza do Monte which was built in the 16th Century by the Jesuits and then later used as a military base. This fort is now turned into a museum with a park beside it which is open to the public. The park is open from 10 am to 6 pm on a daily basis and you have to purchase a ticket in order to enter. When you walk around the fort looking at the magnificent structure it makes you wonder about the amount of hard work that has gone into building those pyramids and buildings.

Macao Museum

The Macao Museum is an excellent way of learning about the history of Macau. The museum is well organised and the structure is easy to understand by anyone who is not even aware of the history. The colonial periods where the region was under the rule of the Portuguese, Chinese, and other ethnic influences are drawn in a positive light. Entrance is free to this museum and the museum is open from 10 am to 5.30 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. This is located around most Macau hotels. 5 Star hotels generally offer a tour of the museum to the guests that stay with them.

Wine Museum

The Wine Museum is not for everyone but it is definitely a unique experience to go to this Wine Museum. It is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm and entrance is free of charge. You get a detailed history of how wine was produced in China and it is amazing to learn. The diagrams, props and the set-up is very easy to understand. There are some wine bottles on display which are more than 100 years old. If you know your wine then you are able to have a wine tasting as well for which you need to make a small payment. Hotel Okura Macau is located in the vicinity of the wine museum and you could request the hotel staff to arrange a tour for you.

Maritime Museum

The maritime museum is also very exciting as it is not an ordinary museum. Open daily from 10 am to 5.30 pm the Museum does not require anyone to purchase a ticket to enter. The Macau maritime history is displayed with models, replicas and old machines. The museum consists of four floors and you do not feel tired as the museum is extremely interesting. One of the highlights of the museum is the Little A-Ma theatre which tells the story of a famous local goddess.
