Good Practices for the Energy Transition

The Good Practice Guide consists of a growing number of publications describing good practices regarding electrical energy. It aims to fill the gap between generalist informative papers and highly technical or academic papers. In other words, it primarily addresses readers who have technical insight and some knowledge of the subject, but are not specialists. Subjects include power quality, energy efficiency, renewable energy systems, electrical networks and electricity for buildings.

When choosing the conductor material for a busbar, the life-cycle cost of the system must be taken into account

In energy systems, life-cycle cost can be substantially larger than the initial purchase cost. When selecting an energy-efficient solution, the lifetime energy bill can be substantially reduced. Efficient systems run also cooler hence safer and with lower maintenance cost. These non-energy benefits are difficult to quantify but can outweigh energy cost savings and cut payback time in half.
