It does not take much persuasion for one to end up a lazy beach bum in Tioman. The village of Tioman is located towards the eastern windy edge of the island thus ensuring most hotel rooms face the ocean and are constantly bombarded with refreshing sea air. Chilling on the beach is highly recommended while visits to the Juara Turtle Project and picnics on Salang the legally 'blonde' beach of Tioman are little treasures to savour and remember. Salang is a backpacker beach located on the north-west edge of Pulau Tioman and well-known for its population of fascinating monitor lizards.
Nipah is an isolated bay located on the island's north-west corner. If you visit the area at night the water will glow in the dark; this is a result of the bioluminescent seaweed glowing in the water. A day visit to Nipah means you get to enjoy a relaxing swim at the river mouth located at the end of the beach. This is where the river meets sea offering one a mix of cool fresh water mingled with salty sea water. The swirling water is a mesmerising whirl of blue that must be experienced and enjoyed by all visitors to Tioman.
Tioman is one of the world's best diving and snorkelling destinations. Renggis Island easily accessed from Berjaya Tioman Resort is by far the best dive location for both underwater photography and experiencing the varied marine life. Relish sights of harmless black-tipped reef sharks, moray eels, stingrays and lazy sea turtles while the corals in all form shapes, colours and hues are bound to mesmerise.
Hiking is quite popular amongst the stunning environs of this paradise island. Most of the island's leeward side is set up with footpaths that connect the villages. There aren't many roads making hiking quite a relaxing and enjoyable sport. Besides the invigorating air and lush nature, these hikes will reward you with marvellous sights of wildlife. Keep an eye out for snakes in the trees, cheeky little monkeys by the roadside and lizards in the rivers. Adventure lovers should try the hike to Asah Waterfalls while the trek from Tekek to Juara is well rewarded with more encounters of the islands amazing wildlife.
Volcanic rock climbing in Juara is the newest rage in Tioman. Top roping and day climbing tours are readily available at the island's beautiful vertical cliffs while an adrenaline pumping rappelling tour promises loads of thrills.
