The Maldives is home to a plethora of underwater experiences which brings in so many tourists throughout the year. Let's look at some of the best snorkelling sites in the Maldives.

Kandholhu

Kandholhu is one of the most popular snorkelling sites in the Maldives, some may even say it is the best. The area has been largely untouched by most of the toils of nature and man, and thus boasts a vivid collection of massive colourful corals that remain intact and undisturbed. In addition to the corals, you'll also find marine life like soldierfish, sweetlips, and even groupers swimming around in this area.

Vilamendhoo

Vilamedhoo is an incredibly popular site for its in-house reef that is located right beside its shore. Snorkelling here, while beautiful and breath-taking must be done with proper caution as the currents are rather strong. It is noteworthy to avoid foot flippers while snorkelling in this area.

Rasdhoo

Rasdhoo Island is well known for its home reef that is located extremely close to its shore, which can be accessed by swimming. Caution must be taken however due to strong currents. You'll find guided tours around 3 points at this site. This site is home to some of the most breathtaking marine life such as giant manta rays, devilfish, sharks and even sea turtles. If diving in the Maldives is what you're on the lookout for, you don't have to look any further than the Rasdhoo Island. You can easily stay at any one of the many Maldives luxury resorts in the area while you explore the underwater world of the Maldives; The Residence Maldives by Cenizaro, for example, is a short distance from this location.

Filitheyo

Filitheyo is a well-known site amongst divers in the Maldives, especially for its precipitous drop-offs. You'll find 7 entry points across the lagoon that provide access to the rich and breath-taking house reefs in the area. One of the biggest highlights here are the 2 sunken ships found in this site that enhance your snorkelling experience with a touch of mystery and visual splendour

Fihalhohi Island

Located in extremely close proximity to the shore, the Fihalhohi house reef is very easy to find. The reef boasts an impressive depth of 16 feet and has become a very popular site for its astounding coral collection. You'll find some exciting marine life such as eels, rays, and sharks that constantly show up in the areas surrounding the site.

Angsana Ihuru

The Angsana Ihuru is considered home to the richest house reef in all of the Maldives according to most locals. Similar to Filitheyo, this site has its own Rannamaari shipwreck that has enveloped with heavy coral growth over time. The corals here boast a myriad of rich colours that enhance this site. Marine life such as manta rays and sharks frequent the area.

Biyadhoo

The beautiful aspect of Biyadhoo is that its house reef surrounds the entirety of the island and can be easily accessed. Through the coral stalagmites in the area, you'll come across 7 different passages for entry. The highlights of this site are the many intriguing caves and its plethora of nudibranchs that are vibrant and colourful.
