4 Biggest shopping centres in Indonesia – Shopping malls that offer you the best retail therapy

Being one of the most popular shopping destinations in Asia, Indonesia is a utopia for shopaholics. Read on to know about some of the most glamorous shopping destinations in the country.

1

Plaza Indonesia Shopping Mall

Just across the street from Grand Indonesia is Plaza Indonesia Shopping Mall – one of the leading shopping malls in Indonesia. If you are not one to shy away from spending on high-end brands, you are going to love this shopping centre. Brands like Burberry, Chanel, Celine, Kenzo, Givenchy and Salvatore Ferragamo dominate the place while making its visitors overawed. Also, if you are a fan of cosmetics, there's Sephora; though they don't boast much in the way of makeup here at the centre you can find perfumes and skin care products here. Also, don't be surprised at the security guards roaming around the shopping mall with machine guns – you may rest assured that you have nothing to worry about in terms of your safety.

2

Supermall Karawaci

The humungous shopping mall located in Lippo Village occupies a land area of 187,000 m2. It's not surprising that such a vast shopping mall has a food court that compliments the size of the mall – which by the way is an invitation for food lovers. Also, your kids are going to love this place as there's a playground as well. In 1998 the mall was set on fire during riots, and now there are many rumours associated with the shopping centre. Despite all that, recently the mall was renovated, and a new wing was added to accommodate luxury brands.

3

Grand Indonesia

If yacht charter Indonesia is your thing or staying at places like Alila Purnama for that matter, you are going to love Grand Indonesia. The mall is full of outlets that cater to the affluent customer in addition to having a restaurant and a luxury hotel. The huge shopping centre is housed in two buildings namely the East and West Mall which are linked by a bridge. You'll find that the mall has eight levels and they are divided into three zones: Main Zone, Speciality Zone and Crossroads of the World district. Furthermore, the cinema complex and the lovely garden at Grand Indonesia will add more colour to your shopping experience. Your pockets will most definitely be empty, but you are going to have the best retail therapy session ever!

4

Gandaria City

If you are on holiday with your kids, you should head over to this family-friendly shopping mall that features over 300 outlets. Known to the locals as GanCit, Gandaria City boasts a plethora of features meant for kids. You can walk up and down the isles of the arcade with the ceiling resembling the sky and let your kids play at the kids' playground. From electronics to books to toys, you can buy anything you want at Gandaria City. The department stores inside the mall feature brands such as Uniqlo, Metro, Mart and Lotte. Karaoke fans can make their way down to T-Rex Family Karaoke, and you can also learn to become a jumbo jet pilot while running wild with shopping.
