You should visit the area for some relaxed fun as you get to explore the popular Ittin cave and chill within the lush environments of Ittin Park, where a picnic and plenty of downtime is recommended.
If you like a taste of mystery, then go check out the anti-gravity point which is located between Taqah and Mirbat. Taqah is only 30 minutes from hotels in Salalah and is another fine place to explore. The mystery point, one of the most popular Oman attractions is famous the world over. It's about 27kms from Taqah, you need to drive up a hilly road to the point where, you put your vehicle in neutral, switch off the engine and watch as your vehicle is pulled up along the hilly road! You should make plans to stop at pretty Taqah beach too, a bird lover's haven the place is resplendent with white sand beaches and is safe for kids to play; the perfect serene environment to relax and appreciate nature's beauty.
Remember the scenic drives along the coastal roads of Salalah, well, take the Salalah to Mirbat drive and you are in for a fabulous treat, which ends with a stint at the ruggedly beautiful beaches of Mirbat. Take along the cameras folks, for the scenery is one to capture, walk along the soft white sand beaches, enjoy the soothing atmosphere and stop for a delicious lunch of fresh seafood at an eatery in the local village. Your drive to Mirbat will take about an hour from your resort in Salalah.
The blowholes of Mughsayl Beach are quite an attraction as the thunderous waves that crash into the underground caves in the area, cause towers of water 30 feet high to shoot into the air. The surroundings made up of smudgy coastlines and blue-green mountains add to the mesmerising effect of the rocky beach.
If you happen to be in Salalah during the season of Khareef, do make the 15-minute drive to Wadi Sahalnoot for a marvellous adventure in the folds of nature. Khareef season, meaning the onset of the monsoon, is when the entire valley comes alive, carpeted in lush greenery the gorges, mountains and water holes in the area are quite an amazing sight. The narrow roads, fixed with sharp turns are adrenaline pumping challenges to manoeuver, so make sure you take on the journey with an experienced guide.
